Apple's AI translates live during texting and calling, including Vietnamese

Along with announcing iOS 26 through its keynote at its annual WWDC 2025 event, Apple revealed a number of new features that will be available in Apple Intelligence when the software update launches later this year.

Quieter, smarter

In 2025, there will be few tech events that do not mention AI. Apple WWDC is no exception. However, after the obstacles in the process of implementing Apple Intelligence, the Cupertino giant chose a different approach. PhoneArena commented that Apple's AI has become "quieter but smarter".

A series of new AI-powered features that improve the user experience will appear on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. The most prominent is Live Translation.

Designed to break down language barriers when communicating, Live Translation integrates into messaging, FaceTime, and phone apps. It runs entirely on the device to keep conversations private.

Messages can be automatically translated as users type and replies received instantly translated. On FaceTime, live captions display translations while users hear the other party's voice. Phone calls are also translated in real time.

Apple updates its creative tools with Genmoji and Image Playground. Users can combine emoji with text to create custom Genmoji, edit expressions, hairstyles, and create images in new styles like oil paintings or fine art. All powered by ChatGPT.

While the next-generation Siri isn’t ready yet, users can ask ChatGPT about what they’re viewing on screen to learn more. The feature also supports searching Google, Etsy, or other apps to find similar images and products.

One notable feature that will be included in the Apple Intelligence update is Visual Intelligence, which recognizes when a user is viewing an event and suggests adding it to the calendar, including all the details.

Visual Intelligence is similar to Android's Circle to Search , where users can take a screenshot of a lamp or a jacket and then search Google for similar photos or find out where to buy them.

Vietnamese support

An important improvement of Apple Intelligence that is also good news for Vietnamese users is the expansion of supported languages.

Specifically, according to Apple's promise, in the official version launched later this year of operating systems such as iOS and MacOS, Apple Intelligence will support 8 more languages, including Vietnamese along with Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, and Chinese.

The list of devices that support the new feature in Apple Intelligence remains unchanged, including iPhone 15 Pro and newer, iPad mini with A17 Pro chip, iPad and Mac computers with M1 chip or later.

Apple Vision Pro supports Apple Intelligence, but it’s unclear what features will be available on this particular device. Additionally, the latest Apple Watch models also started getting Apple Intelligence this year.
