AI assists translation at APEC Summit in South Korea

The 2025 Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju City (North Gyeongsang Province) will become a high-tech event when for the first time, an interactive interpretation-translation system using artificial intelligence (AI) is deployed synchronously, supporting all 21 languages of member economies.

Local authorities said AI will appear at most key points: 12 hotels for leaders, Gimhae airport, Gyeongju station, central bus station…

The system allows instant translation of conversations in any language within the APEC bloc, and hotels also arrange support desks with professional interpreters.

Not only stopping at accommodation, the Gyeongju city government also carefully prepared for the daily life of tens of thousands of international visitors: 150 "global restaurants," multilingual QR code menus; more than 1,000 taxis integrated with AI translation, allowing passengers to chat with drivers in their mother tongue via QR code - a feature that was successfully tested at the APEC senior officials meeting last February.

In addition, all delegates will receive an electronic welcome card with QR code, providing immediate schedule, transportation, accommodation, food and travel information in Korean and English.

It is expected that more than 20,000 guests - including leaders, government officials and international business leaders - will flock to Gyeongju from late October to early November./.
