In the heart of vast Moscow, the Hai Phong Association (Eastern region) in the Russian Federation remains a “warm spark” of love for the homeland. For 15 years, the association has become a spiritual support, connecting the Hai Phong people living abroad and spreading their love for their homeland.

Towards the motherland

In October 2025, when consecutive storms and floods devastated the Central region, the Hai Phong Association in the Russian Federation quickly responded to the call of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, mobilizing donations of 38 million VND to send back to support people in flood-affected areas. The amount of money contained the wholeheartedness of those who were far away from home, like a strong bond connecting Vietnamese people around the world .

Looking back on the past, volunteer activities have always been a highlight of the association. Established in October 2010, in the spirit of volunteerism, the association has gradually improved its organization, united overseas Vietnamese to build a strong Hai Phong community abroad.

From 2011 to now, the association and its members have contributed more than 700 million VND to many welfare programs in their hometown, from giving gifts to orphans, lonely elderly people, Agent Orange victims to supporting the programs "Kind Heart", "Heart for Children" and helping poor students in Vinh Bao, flood-affected people in the Central region...

In September 2024, after storm No. 3 ( Yagi ), the association continued to donate more than 70 million VND to support Hai Phong in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. During the campaign to help the Cuban people last August, the association also donated 28 million VND.

In particular, many members contributed large sums of money, typically Vice President Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, who has supported programs for the poor, Tet for the disadvantaged, and border guards for many years. Some member families voluntarily contributed 50 - 70 million VND to charitable activities.

In addition to charitable activities, the association also devotes much of its heart and soul to the homeland's sea and islands. From 2011 to 2017, the association and its members contributed hundreds of millions of VND to the soldiers and people of Truong Sa archipelago, the coast guard force and programs launched by the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia. Many association officials directly participated in visits to Truong Sa archipelago, DK1 platform, gave gifts to students on the island, and spread the love of the sea and islands among the Hai Phong community living far from home.

The common home of the people of Hai Phong

Representatives of the Liaison Committee of the Hai Phong Association in the Russian Federation visited and gave gifts to compatriots in their hometown of Hai Phong in October 2025.

“In a foreign land, the most precious thing is that people know how to rely on each other and love each other like blood relatives. The Association of Compatriots is the common home of Hai Phong expatriates in the Russian Federation,” Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, Vice President of the Association, emotionally shared.

In Russia, community events such as Hai Phong Liberation Day (May 13), National Day (September 2), Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20), and traditional New Year celebrations always attract hundreds of participants. This is an opportunity to connect, preserve Vietnamese identity, and preserve the Vietnamese language for the younger generation.

The association pays special attention to the third generation - children of overseas Vietnamese born and raised in Russia. Every year, the association honors dozens of students with outstanding achievements. For families with children studying in Vietnam, the association maintains a similar form of support through the domestic liaison committee. Small gifts such as moon cakes, Vietnamese books, etc. are given as a way for the association to preserve the children's roots.

The association is also a support for Hai Phong people in Russia in times of trouble: supporting the seriously ill and the deceased, helping with legal procedures, funeral arrangements, and mobilizing donations to bring ashes back to their homeland. Each case is supported with between 5,000 and 10,000 USD.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when Russia became a hot spot, the association supported food and medicine for families in need; helped 5 deceased Hai Phong residents complete procedures, organize online funerals and bring ashes back to the country. In addition, the association also provided legal advice and support to people involved in disputes and loan sharking; and promptly helped those in risky and unfortunate situations.

All activities of the association originate from the voluntary contributions of overseas Vietnamese, from contributions of 500 - 1,000 rubles to tens of millions of dong. All funds are public and transparent, creating trust and spreading power in the community. This achievement is thanks to the exemplary role of the Executive Committee and the spirit of solidarity of Hai Phong people in the Russian Federation. Practical activities show that the community is not only united in a foreign land but also always looks towards the homeland through humanitarian work.

With the persistent efforts of the Executive Committee, the association has contributed to spreading the beautiful image of Hai Phong people with love and responsibility. Last May, the association was awarded a certificate of merit by the City People's Committee for its many contributions to the city's development and work with overseas Vietnamese.
