With the solution "Making a fixture to fix the edge of the steel strip when uncoiling the output coil on the S1 large slitting machine", Mr. Trinh Van Tuyen, Head of the S1 large slitting line, JFE Shoji Hai Phong Steel Co., Ltd. (VSIP Industrial Park) was awarded the Creative Labor Certificate in 2024 by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor .
Mr. Tuyen said that in the past, during the process of cutting small-width steel coils, the steel strip of the coil group was often clamped in the output shaft, leading to the inside of the coil being exposed and stuck in the output shaft of the unwinding machine.
The reason is that soft felt is used to insert the roll group but the felt is not hard enough to hold the steel strip end when the roll car moves out. This limitation causes loss of time and safety during handling.
From that situation, he spent time observing and analyzing the cause. According to him, the biggest weakness is that using felt to hold the roll group is ineffective because the felt is soft, when moving, the weight of the roll is large, making the steel strip head easily stuck. During the production process, workers spent a lot of effort to fix this error.
The steel strip is hard and difficult to bend. Every time it is broken, it takes time to push it back to its original position, affecting the overall progress of the production line. From there, he proposed to manufacture a semicircular steel fixture, light and easy to disassemble to hold the end of the steel strip. When the rolls move, this device keeps the steel edge from being broken or stuck in the shaft, ensuring safety and reducing error handling time.
After only a short time of application, the semi-circular steel fixture has proven to be remarkably effective. The solution helps save operating time, eliminates roll unraveling when moving roll groups, reduces operating and processing time by 5 minutes per production order, thereby saving 14 hours per month.
The solution has been applied since January 2024 at both S1 and S3 lines, generating a profit of VND840 million/year, especially without incurring any costs because it uses materials available in the workshop. Chairman of the Trade Union of JFE Shoji Steel Company Limited, Dang Van Hiep, commented that Mr. Tuyen's solution is simple but highly effective. It is valuable that the initiative comes from practice, from careful observation during the labor process, not only saving costs but also helping to ensure safety for operators.
Graduated from Central College of Transport 2, intermediate level of welding, with a studious spirit, Mr. Trinh Van Tuyen is always active in improving techniques.
Although he was awarded the Creative Labor Certificate by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for the first time, during his 7 years working at the company, Mr. Tuyen often proposed many initiatives and improvements in the production process with his workers. For many years, he was evaluated by the company as having excellently completed his tasks and was an exemplary union member in the creative labor emulation movement.
Sharing about his motivation for research, Mr. Tuyen expressed that every improvement, no matter how small, if it helps workers operate machines more conveniently and safely, is something that should be done. Therefore, at work, he always observes carefully, detects limitations and then finds ways to overcome them with his colleagues.
Furthermore, the company always creates favorable conditions by fully equipping facilities, encouraging employees to be creative through clear and transparent incentive policies and competition evaluation. This is the "leverage" for each worker to confidently propose new ideas. "In the context of many economic fluctuations, helping businesses cut costs and improve productivity is extremely important. That also contributes to ensuring jobs and income for the workers themselves" - Mr. Tuyen said.
With dedication, responsibility and a spirit of constant innovation, line manager Trinh Van Tuyen is continuing to inspire creativity in his colleagues, contributing to building the image of a dynamic and professional Hai Phong worker in the integration period.
