Amidst the lush green mountains and forests, the innocent laughter of children echoes from the small schools in the Lang Nu resettlement area like a joyful melody, breathing new life into the community.
The new school in the resettlement area will be for first and second graders from Nu Village. Before the storm, the old school had 29 students; after the storm, only 26 remained, as three children were unfortunately swept away by the flood. The new school and the new village have just been handed over to the residents.
The innocent laughter and eager eyes of children at the village schools in Nu are the clearest evidence of the vibrant spirit of this land that once endured a devastating storm.
Earlier, on December 22nd, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang visited students at the Lang Nu resettlement school.
On December 23rd, after the handover and inauguration of the Lang Nu resettlement area, elementary and middle school students in Phuc Khanh were brought to school by their parents with great joy and excitement.
Green tree system is arranged in the school campus in the resettlement area of Lang Nu.
Here, grade 1 has 13 students, grade 2 has 14 students. Students from grade 3 and up will study at the main school.
The devastating flash flood that struck Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province) left 7 kindergarten students and 13 students from Phuc Khanh No. 1 Primary and Secondary School with no chance of ever returning to school with their friends and teachers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, homeroom teacher of class 2A, said: “For students who have returned to school, we try to catch up on the knowledge they missed during the break. Along with that, it's important to stabilize their mental state. The teachers at the school all show love and care for the students, especially those who lost loved ones and homes in Lang Nu village.”
In the preschool at the Lang Nu resettlement area, there are 37 children enrolled. Teaching and learning equipment has been fully provided. Each classroom has six play areas, which the teachers decorate according to themes, such as a learning corner, an art corner, and a math corner. Outside, there are decorations for parents, ethnic groups, and even Christmas...
Ms. Hoang Thi Hoa, a teacher of the 2-3 year old class, said: “In the beginning, the teachers had to work very hard to prevent the children from being frightened. The children are innocent, and every day they would repeat questions like 'Where is this friend?' or 'Where did that friend go?' Now that they are studying at the new school, they seem to have forgotten their sadness and become cheerful again.”
