Many people often start their day with a cup of coffee.

Although caffeine has many benefits, it can actually increase blood sugar levels if taken too early. This can be problematic in some cases. High blood sugar can cause diabetes.

However, if you know how, you can completely sip your favorite cup of coffee without the above problem.

Dr. Mosley explained that before waking up, people's bodies "release large amounts of the stress hormone cortisol" to kickstart the day. If you consume caffeine while cortisol levels are high, it will cause your blood sugar to rise even higher, according to Mirror.

While monitoring his blood sugar, Dr. Mosley noticed that even black coffee without milk or sugar raised his blood sugar.

Monitoring blood sugar is important for a number of reasons. Dr. Mosley shares that many people have abnormally high blood sugar without realizing that it can cause damage to arteries and nerves.

Dr Mosley said many people have prediabetes without knowing it. This is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be considered diabetes.

Dr Mosley said he was advised by James Betts, professor of metabolic physiology at the University of Bath (UK), to delay drinking coffee for an hour after waking up - when cortisol levels gradually decrease. Because this is a good way for us to control blood sugar response. And he has followed this advice for many years, according to Mirror.
