On the afternoon of September 1st, at a durian seminar, the People's Committee of Krông Pắk district ( Đắk Lắk province ) organized an auction of 3 durians, in which the "queen of durians," Ri6, sold for over 1.4 billion VND.
The first durian fruit offered at auction came from a more than 100-year-old tree planted at the CADA plantation, with a starting price of 60 million VND. Ultimately, a business won the auction for the durian fruit at a price of 350 million VND.
The second durian offered at auction was of the Dona variety, with a starting price of 70 million VND. This durian was carefully selected from dozens of durian growers and underwent a rigorous selection process.
Similar to the ancient durian, many businesses are setting auction prices in increments of 200, 400, then 700, and 800 million VND.
Finally, with her "determination to own the Dona durian," the businesswoman from Hong Sang Company won the auction with a bid of 800 million VND. Upon receiving the gold-plated Dona durian, she also announced an additional donation of 100 million VND to the local community for social welfare.

The most dramatic moment was the auction of the third durian, a Ri6 variety dubbed the "queen of durians," which had a starting price of 60 million VND and attracted many interested businesses.
The highest bidder for the "Queen of Durians" Ri6 was a female durian businesswoman in Dak Lak, with a bid of 500 million VND. She called on several people to contribute more money to bid for the durian with her, aiming to help the local community raise funds for social welfare.
Ultimately, the final price at the auction for the Ri6 durian was over 1.4 billion VND.
The businesswoman stated that the Ri6 durian variety, a source of pride for Vietnam, originates from Cho Lach district ( Ben Tre province ), her hometown.
"The purpose of today's auction is to contribute to social welfare, so winning this auction is a joy and happiness for the business. This Ri6 durian that was won at auction will not belong to anyone; I will take it back and give it to Uncle Six Ri - the father of this durian variety," the businesswoman said.

Thus, the winning bid for the three durians was 2.55 billion VND, and the entire amount will be transferred to the Krông Pắk District People's Committee to be used in the local social welfare program.
Ms. Ngo Thi Minh Trinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong Pak District, said that the winning bidder, in addition to receiving the purchased durian, will also be given a gold-plated durian for display and souvenir purposes.
Among them, the Ri6 gold-plated durian is worth 50 million VND, and the Dona commemorative durian is worth 70 million VND. "The entire amount from the auction will be used by the district to serve social welfare work for the people," Ms. Trinh said.
Dak Lak province has over 32,000 hectares of durian orchards, of which approximately 9,500 hectares are planted as monoculture and about 23,000 hectares are intercropped. This province ranks second in the country in durian production, estimated at 280,000 tons.
Krông Pắk district alone currently has over 7,000 hectares of durian orchards, with an estimated production of over 92,000 tons this year, contributing to Vietnam's export revenue of 2.24 billion USD in 2023.
