(NLĐO) - On January 17, the Civil Aviation Authority held a handover ceremony for leadership duties between former Director Dinh Viet Thang and new Director Uong Viet Dung.
According to a decision by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) dated December 31, 2024, Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Transport and concurrently Chief of the Office of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Transport, is appointed to the position of Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam for a limited term, effective January 1, 2025.

At the conference, Mr. Dinh Viet Thang officially handed over the duties of the Civil Aviation Authority to the new Director, Mr. Uong Viet Dung. Mr. Dinh Viet Thang expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport; and the companionship and sharing of the key officials and staff of the Civil Aviation Authority during his tenure as Director.
Mr. Dinh Viet Thang expressed his confidence that Director Uong Viet Dung and the entire leadership, officials, and employees of the Civil Aviation Authority will continue to uphold the fine traditions, always striving their best, and working together in unity for the sustainable development of Vietnam's aviation industry.
He also requested that the leaders of the Department and related units, immediately after the handover conference, organize the implementation of specific work reports to the Director; promptly review the work plan, tasks, and work activities according to the assigned responsibilities, and coordinate closely to advise and assist the new Director in managing the work with the highest efficiency.
Newly appointed Director General Uong Viet Dung expressed his responsibility as the head of the agency, pledging to dedicate all his abilities and efforts, working wholeheartedly with the team to uphold traditions, build the Civil Aviation Authority into an increasingly comprehensive and sustainable organization, and successfully fulfill the political tasks assigned by the Ministry of Transport .
The new Director General, Uong Viet Dung, also expressed his hope that the leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority, its officials, civil servants, and employees would continue to unite, maintain cohesion, and highly promote a spirit of responsibility, dedication, diligence, initiative, and creativity, intensify emulation, build a clean, strong, and comprehensive Party committee and agency, and perform all assigned tasks well and excellently.

At the same time, the new Director General called on all officials, Party members, and employees to continue to uphold the glorious traditions of the Civil Aviation Authority over 69 years of development and growth, to promote the spirit of solidarity and unity, to work together to overcome all difficulties and challenges, to seize opportunities, and to look forward to the 14th National Congress of the Party - a special milestone on the path of national development, opening a new era, an era of the Vietnamese nation's progress.
Mr. Uong Viet Dung, born in 1983, is an engineer specializing in aircraft engineering from the Saint Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation, Russian Federation; a Bachelor's degree in Corporate Finance from the National Economics University, a Master's degree in Human Resource Management from the Trade Union University, and has completed advanced political theory training.
Prior to assuming the position of Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Uong Viet Dung held the following positions: Deputy Chief of the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee; Deputy Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Transport; Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Transport, concurrently Chief of the Office of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Transport.
His predecessor, Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, held the position of Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam from June 2017. In December 2024, Mr. Dinh Viet Thang submitted a request to the leaders of the Ministry of Transport to retire early due to health reasons. The leaders of the Ministry of Transport considered Mr. Dinh Viet Thang's request for early retirement according to the established procedures.
