This evening (June 21, 2023), the 17th National Journalism Awards Ceremony - 2022 was held at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace (Hanoi). Mr. Vo Van Thuong - Member of the Politburo , President of Vietnam - attended and delivered an important speech at the ceremony.

Journalists collaborated to analyze, interpret, and seek solutions to important socio- economic issues.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong stated: In 2022, amidst numerous difficulties and challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the international situation becoming increasingly complex, volatile, and unpredictable, the press has accompanied the entire Party, people, and army in the recovery and development of socio-economic affairs. Journalists, with their intellect, dedication to the country, and diligent work, have analyzed, interpreted, and sought solutions to important socio-economic issues and matters of public concern; vividly reflecting the peaceful and peace-loving nature of Vietnam and its people, who aspire to be friends and reliable partners with the international community.

According to the President, the team of journalists has left many significant marks, being more responsive in the fight against corruption and negative phenomena; more incisive in protecting the Party's ideological foundation, combating false and hostile viewpoints; protecting maritime sovereignty and islands, protecting the environment, responding to climate change; preserving and promoting national cultural identity, educating on human values ​​and human dignity; and promoting digital transformation in various fields…

"The press has discovered, introduced, encouraged, and disseminated many new exemplary advanced factors, good practices, innovative models, good people, good deeds, and actively fought against bad habits, vices, and manifestations of moral and lifestyle degradation...", Mr. Vo Van Thuong stated clearly.

President Vo Van Thuong expressed his delight that the National Journalism Award is receiving increasing attention and participation from a wide range of journalists and the public.

"I highly appreciate the works that won this year's awards, which continue to affirm the revolutionary spirit, scientific rigor, perceptiveness, creativity, noble professional ideals, and tireless dedication of journalists. The journalistic works have shown serious and meticulous investment, with many creative, vivid, and engaging ways of expression, clearly demonstrating the capacity for digital transformation and journalistic innovation. Many journalistic works are insightful, highly combative, sharp, scientifically critical, propose practical solutions, provide positive information, and have a strong impact, inspiring and inspiring society," the President emphasized.

The press needs to work alongside the government, businesses, and the people to address the problems arising in practice.

Looking ahead, President Vo Van Thuong urged press agencies and journalists to first and foremost be highly aware of their responsibility to the Party, the State, the people, and their readers regarding the mission they undertake.

According to the President, journalists must always deeply understand that "journalism is revolution, journalists are pioneers on the ideological and cultural front of the Party," and "the task of journalism is to serve the people and the revolution," as President Ho Chi Minh once instructed. Based on unwavering commitment to the noble ideals and values ​​of journalism, adhering to basic principles, preserving core values, professional ideals, and ethical conduct, upholding social responsibility, and constantly innovating, they must provide timely, accurate, objective, truthful, useful, and reliable information to the Party, the State, and the people.

Secondly, the President requested that journalists continue to demonstrate their courage, dedication, and leadership in addressing major, new, and challenging issues facing the country. They should closely follow the vibrant realities of social life and the cause of national renewal, construction, and defense, promptly and vividly reflecting the great and historically significant achievements the country has attained under the Party's leadership. They should propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and regulations, provide useful information, raise public awareness, expand social democracy, and promote the role of the press in social oversight and criticism.

The President requested that the press should work alongside the government, businesses, and citizens in finding solutions to address practical issues. He emphasized the need to encourage active citizen participation in building a socialist rule of law state, developing institutions, formulating policies and legal documents, and monitoring the power and performance of duties by officials and civil servants within the administrative apparatus.

Thirdly, the President emphasized the requirement that the press must be the leading force, connecting and mobilizing resources, including the intellect, sense of responsibility, and dynamic, creative inspiration and dedication of the entire nation; nurturing, inspiring, and encouraging the aspiration for a prosperous and happy country, the will to overcome difficulties and challenges, and optimism and confidence in the bright future of the nation; building and promoting national unity, creating a strong driving force for development.

Fourth , resolutely fight to eliminate anything that hinders, restrains, or harms the country's development process.

"In the context of increasingly diverse, multi-faceted information, many new and unverified issues, misinformation, and schemes to exploit freedom and democracy to go against the values ​​and goals that the revolutionary press has been striving for, the press needs to be proactive, sensitive, detect and predict issues, firmly protect the ideological foundation of the Party, and sharply combat false and hostile narratives, contributing to consolidating and fostering the people's trust. The press continues to be an important weapon in the fight against corruption, negativity, bureaucracy, waste, and social evils," Mr. Vo Van Thuong demanded.

Fifth, the press is an integral part of culture, a leading force in building and developing Vietnamese culture and the Vietnamese people. Every journalist and every media organization must be a role model, representing cultural values, a cultural organization, a cultural environment with cultural people, preserving the dignity, pride, and self-respect of journalism, overcoming temptations and challenges, and placing the interests of the Party, the Fatherland, the people, and the honor of the individual above all else in every written page and every journalistic product.

Continuing to discover and commend exemplary individuals and positive role models, spreading good values, affirming the dignity, soul, character, and intellect of the Vietnamese people, and guiding society towards the values ​​of truth, goodness, and beauty. Through the bridge of the press, enhancing Vietnam's prestige and position, opening up opportunities to selectively absorb the finest aspects of human culture to enrich national cultural identity, and further strengthening friendship between the Vietnamese people and progressive, peace-loving people and friends around the world.

Sixth , in light of the rapid development of science and technology, fierce competition from other information platforms, and changes in public information access behavior, the President requested that every journalist continuously engage in self-learning and research, proactively integrate internationally, strongly innovate, practice professionally, and provide high-quality, reliable, and persuasive information on traditional platforms and especially on digital platforms, in order to attract and maintain public trust and respect, and to capture and dominate public attention.
