The program attracted hundreds of youth union members, citizens, officials, and civil servants to participate.
On the morning of February 23rd, the Youth Union of Giao Thong Newspaper, in coordination with the People's Committee of Thoi Binh Ward, Ninh Kieu District ( Can Tho City), organized the 2025 Voluntary Blood Donation Day program with the theme "A Drop of Red Given - Giving Life".
The youth union members enthusiastically participated in the blood donation event.
Also attending the program were leaders from the Ninh Kieu District Party Committee and People's Committee, and representatives from coordinating units, including: Can Tho Maritime Port Authority; Inland Waterway Port Authority Region IV; Registration and Inspection Sub-Department No. 8; Can Tho Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital; Can Tho Department of Transport; Can Tho City Police Traffic Police Department; Can Tho City Red Cross Society; Vocational College; Thoi Binh Ward Youth Union; and the Southwest Maritime Safety Assurance Company. A total of 250 people participated and underwent screening before donating blood.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Ta Huu Hiep, Secretary of the Youth Union of Giao Thong Newspaper, said that according to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam needs about 2 million units of blood each year for treating injuries, accidents, surgeries, and people with diseases requiring blood transfusions.
However, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health , Vietnam currently only meets about 54% of the demand for blood for treatment, so many localities still face blood shortages.
"Aware of this, over the years, young people nationwide in general, and young people in the transportation sector in particular, have regularly organized blood donation programs, attracting a large number of union members and young people to participate, creating a strong ripple effect in the community."
"Amidst this general trend, the Youth Union of the Transport Newspaper has participated in blood donation programs organized by the Youth Union of the Ministry of Transport for many years, and has also published articles to widely promote this humane activity among its members and young people in the transport sector ," Mr. Hiep said.
Mr. Ta Huu Hiep - Secretary of the Youth Union of Giao Thong Newspaper - delivered the opening speech for the event.
In particular, in 2024, the Youth Union of the Transport Newspaper, in coordination with 6 units in the transport sector in the Can Tho area, organized a voluntary blood donation day and received enthusiastic participation from officials, employees, union members, and young people from these units.
Following this success, with the permission of the Party Committee and People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District, the Party Committee of Giao Thong Newspaper, the Youth Union of Giao Thong Newspaper, and the People's Committee of Thoi Binh Ward organized a voluntary blood donation day with the coordination of 7 units inside and outside the transportation sector in the Can Tho area.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, Chairwoman of the Thoi Binh Ward People's Committee, highly appreciated the program and hoped that it would be maintained in the future.
Also at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, Chairwoman of the Thoi Binh Ward People's Committee, said that the ward has effectively implemented voluntary blood donation programs every year. From January 2024 to February 2025, the ward mobilized 585/558 units of blood, achieving 104.83% of the target assigned by the district.
To achieve the 2025 target of 726 units of blood, Ms. Nga requested that the police, military, officials, members, civil servants, and employees of the ward continue to participate in blood donation programs.
"Blood donation doesn't take much time or effort, but it's essential for society in its humanitarian sense of saving lives," said Ms. Nga. The Chairwoman of the Thoi Binh Ward People's Committee also expressed her sincere gratitude for the cooperation of Giao Thong Newspaper and the coordinating units, and hoped that these meaningful programs would be maintained and continued in the future.
The program is expected to collect approximately 200 units of blood. As part of the program, the organizers will also provide 20 gifts to poor and near-poor households in Thoi Binh ward.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Hoan, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Inland Waterway Port Authority Region IV, said that this is a very meaningful program, and he feels very happy and proud to contribute a small part to community health care.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Kieu, a kindergarten teacher, hopes that her small contribution will save a patient in need of blood. She also hopes that people will bravely participate in blood donation to save lives.
Police officers from Ninh Kieu district participated in blood donation.
Initially, the blood donors were a little nervous, but they all felt very happy and fulfilled to be contributing to the blood reserve in Can Tho.
Major Nguyen Thanh Luan and Major Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, from the Road Traffic Police Department of Can Tho City Police, participated in blood donation.
The Can Tho City Red Cross force is ready to support and guide people in participating in blood donation.
The program also allocated 20 gifts to be given to poor and near-poor households in Thoi Binh ward.
Leaders of the Ninh Kieu District Party Committee and People's Committee, along with coordinating units, took a commemorative photo after the opening ceremony of the blood donation event.
