The ornamental plants in Mr. Ta Hong Xuan's garden are grown in pots made from a mixture of sand, cement, and glass. Mr. Xuan also researched making garden paving tiles from glass waste. The products have a durability comparable to traditionally produced tiles and pots. Mr. Hong Xuan recounted: "Initially, I mixed the materials together to make plant pots, but the glass didn't bond well. I went online to learn more about making concrete with glass from other countries. Then, I learned as I went until I created a quality product."
For many years, Hau Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital hired a company to handle medical waste, including glass bottles and jars. After researching and realizing that glass waste could be processed, in early 2025, Mr. Xuan proposed to the hospital's leadership that he and his colleagues research ways to process bottles and jars to save costs. After four months of research, Mr. Xuan found a method to transform glass bottles and jars into concrete mortar, from which he used to make planters and paving tiles for gardens. The product was recognized by the Scientific Council of Hau Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. In the 2025 Rural Youth Startup Project competition organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Mr. Ta Hong Xuan's project "Production of ornamental plant pots and paving tiles from glass waste" was one of 30 projects in the final round and received a certificate from the Central Committee of the Youth Union.

Among them, the initiatives "Self-made NCPAP system," "Nebulizer system using a compressed air pump," and "Ball-operated ventilation system" received commendations from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
As the Secretary of the Youth Union at the grassroots level, Mr. Hong Xuan encouraged and motivated Youth Union members to participate in volunteer work for the community; he organized on-site volunteer activities related to their professional work. Mr. Hong Xuan inspired and motivated Youth Union members to participate in scientific research and implement initiatives and improvements. By 2025, Hau Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital had 33 scientific research projects, initiatives, and improvements recognized at various levels. Of these, the unit's Youth Union members participated in implementing 18 projects, initiatives, and improvements, such as: pathological research, technical improvements in disease treatment, solutions to improve the effectiveness of communication for the hospital, etc.
Ms. Ngo Thanh Thao, a member of Youth Union Branch 9, said: “In Youth Union work, Mr. Hong Xuan is always exemplary, leading the way in activities and encouraging us to actively participate in movements. He is sociable, friendly, and always ready to help Youth Union members in their work or when they encounter difficulties in life.”
According to Mr. Hong Xuan, the Youth Union branch of the hospital will implement solutions to improve the effectiveness of the Youth Union's work and youth movement, such as: enhancing the role of Youth Union members in professional work and volunteering for community life; supporting Youth Union members to develop their creativity in performing their duties; organizing activities to visit historical sites and educate Youth Union members about traditions… Mr. Hong Xuan himself will continue to research ways to increase the value of glass waste from the hospital to reduce the cost of medical waste treatment and create a fund for the activities of the Youth Union branch of Hau Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
