The baby boy weighed nearly 5.8kg - one of the heaviest babies born at Hung Vuong Hospital to date.

On February 28, Hung Vuong Hospital (HCMC) announced that it had just performed a cesarean section on a 29-year-old mother, giving birth for the second time, residing in HCMC. The baby boy was born weighing 5,770g.

A 5.8kg baby boy was successfully delivered by caesarean section at Hung Vuong Hospital.

Doctor Hoang Le Minh Hien, who directly delivered the baby, said that because the baby was expected to be large, the hospital proactively opted for a cesarean section. The surgery went smoothly. “This was the first time I had delivered a baby with such a large weight. When I delivered the baby, I had to hold him and lean my whole body to support him,” said Doctor Hien.

According to Dr. Minh Hien, this is also one of the heaviest births at Hung Vuong Hospital to date. Normally, large babies are born to mothers with gestational diabetes. At that time, the baby is susceptible to respiratory failure, sepsis, and pneumonia. However, in this case, the 29-year-old mother did not have diabetes or pregnancy complications. Currently, both mother and baby are in stable health.

Previously, on February 27, Ha Tinh General Hospital also successfully delivered a 36-year-old woman who gave birth to her third child, the baby weighing 6kg.

On February 7, doctors in Phu Tho performed a cesarean section on a 21-year-old first-time pregnant woman. The baby boy was born weighing 5.4kg.

In August 2022, Bac Giang Provincial Hospital successfully delivered a baby girl weighing 6.2 kg.
