The film "Village in the City " revolves around the arduous life of a married couple, Hieu (Duy Hung) and Hoai (Tran Van), struggling to make ends meet in the city. Hieu has yet to find a stable job, so all the family's living expenses depend on Hoai's factory worker salary.
Despite the difficulties, the young couple's life seems to be fraught with problems and misunderstandings. In particular, the appearance of Thoan (Linh Chi) – Hoai's colleague at the garment factory – cannot be ignored. Although they are close friends, in recent episodes, the two have frequently clashed.
Thoan unexpectedly overheard Hoai reminding her husband not to lend money to their friend to send back home for her father's medical treatment because Hoai's family didn't have much money either. Feeling insulted, Thoan quickly returned the money to Hoai and her husband and vented her anger on her friend, ignoring any explanations.
Because of this conflict, Thoan repeatedly dismissed Hoai's kindness and refused to follow her best friend's advice, even though she herself was doing something wrong that could negatively impact the entire chain.
Later, after being transferred to another department, Thoan believed Hoai was the one who had tattled, so she went to Hoai's house to cause trouble. Not only that, Thoan also implicitly accused Hoai of having an affair with the team leader in front of Hieu.
Thoan's actions angered viewers: "What kind of friend is that? Just hearing his voice, you can tell he's deceitful and manipulative. He changes his mind so quickly," "The behavior of a despicable person," "This friend is just taking advantage"...
Contacted by Dan Tri newspaper, Linh Chi (born in 2000, from Thai Nguyen province) happily shared with the reporter about her role: "Actually, I personally find the character Thoan very pitiful because her family is struggling, she has to earn money to pay for her father's medical treatment, and she also has a gambling step-aunt. She is fierce because her pride has been hurt, coupled with such circumstances."
When I accepted the role, I thought it would be hated, and after reading the comments, I understood the feelings and thoughts of the audience watching the film. I accept the mixed opinions with a cheerful and positive attitude. I think that for a new actor, being remembered by the audience is already a joy."
Prior to playing Thoan, Linh Chi was usually known for gentle, less assertive roles. The character in the film "Village in the City " has a completely different personality from the actress in real life. Furthermore, working with a professional crew for the first time presented her with some challenges.
"For this role, I read the script every day and wrote down my thoughts on paper. When we arrived on set, the director would analyze and clarify the character's psychology and actions in each scene. Although it was the first time the two of us worked together, I always received help and support from Ms. Tran Van," she said.
As this was her first role in a television drama, Linh Chi always strived to fully embody her character. Prior to this, she had participated in films and sitcoms such as "Rookie's Diary," "Three Soldiers , " and "Family War."
