I am the youngest of four siblings. My older brother is a construction worker, so I occasionally get to accompany him on site surveys. I admire people in this field for creating massive and impressive structures. Therefore, ever since high school, I have harbored the dream of becoming a construction consultant and working in this field.
However, when I expressed my desire to study Civil Engineering at the University of Civil Engineering, my whole family strongly objected. Up until then, my family had always wanted me to study economics- related fields.
In every conversation, my parents emphasized, "Why would a girl study engineering and ruin her beauty? This field is only for boys." My older brother also agreed with that viewpoint.
I'm currently very confused. On one hand, there's my own dream, and on the other hand, there's my family's wish. I don't know how to satisfy both sides. Please give me some advice.
