Minister Nguyen Manh Hung welcomed the Prime Minister of Singapore and his wife at Noi Bai airport.

(NLĐO) - On the afternoon of March 25, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Lawrence Wong and his wife Loo Tze Lui arrived in Hanoi , beginning their official visit to Vietnam.

The visit took place from March 25 to 26, at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife.

Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh.

Accompanying Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on his official visit to Vietnam were: Mrs. Loo Tze Lui, the Prime Minister's wife; Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan; Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng; Minister of State for Health and Minister of State for Digital and Information Development Rahayu Binte Mahzam; Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Albert Chua; Singapore Ambassador to Vietnam Jaya Ratnam; and Singapore Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Pang Te Cheng.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's official visit to Vietnam takes place in the context of Vietnam and Singapore working to realize the potential for cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which the two sides recently upgraded during General Secretary To Lam's visit to Singapore.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was born on December 18, 1972, in Singapore; he graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Economics degree and holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Lawrence Wong began his public sector career in 2000 at the Ministry of Finance. He served as Minister for Education from 2011-2015, Minister for National Development from 2015-2019, and Minister for Finance from 2019-2022.

On April 14, 2022, he was elected by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Central Executive Committee of the People's Action Party (PAP) as the leader of the Fourth Generation (4G), replacing Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat. He served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance from June 2022 to May 2024. From May 15, 2024 to the present, he has held the position of Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

On December 4, 2024, at the first meeting of the 38th Central Executive Committee (CEC-38) of the PAP, he was elected Secretary-General of the PAP, succeeding Lee Hsien Loong. As the youngest Prime Minister in Singapore's history, Lawrence Wong is considered a gracious, flexible, pragmatic leader with strategic vision and dynamism.
