The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on October 23rd. The suspect, Bang Van Vy (born in 1996, residing in Que Phong commune, Nghe An province), was at the hospital caring for his wife who had just given birth when he suddenly attacked medical staff and family members with a knife. In particular, Vy snatched a newborn baby and attempted to throw it out the window. A nurse immediately intervened to save the child and was attacked by the suspect.
The incident resulted in injuries to four medical staff and two family members of a patient, with nurse Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang sustaining serious stab wounds to the neck and chest. The victims were taken to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital for emergency treatment and are now out of critical condition.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) and Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, emphasized: Regardless of the reason, attacking medical staff while they are on duty is unacceptable. This is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with severely.
Dr. Ha Anh Duc added that, in recent times, the health sector has implemented many measures to strengthen the protection of medical staff at healthcare facilities. However, to address the root cause, comprehensive and systematic solutions are needed, along with decisive action from relevant authorities.
The Ministry of Health will continue to direct hospitals to strengthen internal security, provide training in interpersonal skills, improve hospital management, apply information technology, and upgrade facilities to create a safe and civilized environment for patients and healthcare workers.
