The incident occurred at around 10am on October 23. Bang Van Vy (born in 1996, residing in Que Phong commune, Nghe An province) went to the hospital to take care of his wife who had just given birth, and suddenly used a knife to attack medical staff and the patient's family. In particular, Vy grabbed a newborn baby and tried to throw it out the window. A nurse immediately intervened to save the baby and was attacked by the subject.
The incident left four medical staff and two patients’ relatives injured, including nurse Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, who was seriously injured with stab wounds to the neck and chest. The victims were taken to Nghe An General Hospital for emergency treatment and are now out of danger.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ), Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, emphasized: Regardless of the cause, attacking medical staff while they are on duty is unacceptable behavior. This is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with strictly.
Dr. Ha Anh Duc added that recently, the health sector has taken many measures to strengthen the protection of medical staff at medical facilities. However, to solve the problem at its root, there needs to be synchronous and systematic solutions, along with the decisive participation of the authorities.
The Ministry of Health will continue to direct hospitals to strengthen internal security, provide training in behavioral skills, improve hospital management, apply information technology and upgrade facilities to create a safe and civilized environment for patients and medical staff.
