'Giant' 16 kg eel caught on Tra Khuc River

On the afternoon of November 30, talking to Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Ngo Tan Phuc (33 years old, in Truong Quang Trong Ward, Quang Ngai City) said that his family had sold an eel weighing nearly 16 kg and about 1.6 m long for more than 10 million VND. The buyer then transported the eel to Ho Chi Minh City.

On the afternoon of November 29, Mr. Ngo Van Lam (65 years old, in Truong Quang Trong Ward), Mr. Phuc's brother, went fishing for eels along the Tra Khuc River.

On the morning of November 30, while fishing in the river section of Nghia Dong commune (Quang Ngai city), Mr. Lam suddenly discovered a "giant" eel caught on the hook.

At this time, Mr. Lam pulled the fish onto the boat and brought it to shore. After that, Mr. Lam put the eel in a styrofoam box, poured water, and added oxygen to keep the fish alive.

Mr. Ngo Tan Phuc holds an eel nearly 1.6 m long.

Eel is a freshwater fish with smooth skin, long body, round body. This fish usually lives in caves and nooks where water flows. Eel has firm, delicious meat, high nutritional content, is a very popular dish. On Tra Khuc river, people sometimes catch eels weighing about 6 - 8 kg.
