Vietnamese pangasius fish is in high demand in Hong Kong (China)

According to Vietnam Customs data, in May 2024, Vietnam's pangasius export turnover reached 167 million USD, up 5% compared to May 2023. Cumulative pangasius export turnover in the first 5 months of this year reached 747 million USD, up 2% over the same period last year.

Frozen pangasius fillets are still the main export product of Vietnamese pangasius. In May 2024, exports of this product to markets reached 134 million USD, up 2% over the same period last year. By the end of May, Vietnam exported nearly 603 million USD worth of frozen pangasius fillets to markets, down slightly by 0.1% over the same period last year.

Regarding consumption markets, China and Hong Kong (China) are still the largest consumers of Vietnamese pangasius. Cumulative pangasius exports to this market in the first 5 months of this year reached nearly 203 million USD, down 13% over the same period.

In May 2024 alone, pangasius export turnover to China reached nearly 48 million USD, up 1%; exports to the Hong Kong market (China) reached more than 2.3 million USD, down 16% over the same period in 2023.

May 2024 was the month with the second highest export value of Vietnamese pangasius to China and Hong Kong (China) since the beginning of this year with a value of nearly 50 million USD, a slight increase of 0.4% over the same period, an increase of 21% over the previous month.

In 2024, the export turnover of pangasius is forecast to reach 1.8 billion USD, an increase of 6% compared to 2023. This forecast is very well-founded, because pangasius is a delicious, nutritious food with affordable price.

Specifically, export prices to the US market range from 3 - 3.5 USD/kg, the European Union (EU) from 2.9 - 3.2 USD/kg and China 2.9 USD/kg (depending on the glazing ratio and weight gain).

Pangasius products are now exported to 140 countries and territories, serving the meals of billions of people around the world .
