Schools 'race' to train AI for teachers in the summer

In mid-July 2025, Le Van Tam Secondary School (Binh Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) invited technology and artificial intelligence (AI) lecturers to train all teachers and staff of the school.

Teachers are equipped with many AI skills such as: exploring the potential and challenges of applying AI in teaching and learning; how to communicate and make the most of AI tools; using AI to create lectures, support learning...

Many schools train in applying AI in teaching

In June and July 2025, a series of schools in Ho Chi Minh City from primary, secondary, high schools to specialized schools such as Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special High School also trained in applying AI in teaching.

Accordingly, teachers at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School have been instructed by technology experts on how to integrate AI into lectures to improve efficiency and create a diverse learning environment.

"AI is helping to remove barriers. School teachers also need to update and apply AI in their lessons to create equal opportunities for visually impaired students. That is why we asked technology experts to guide the school's teachers so that we can do better teaching," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hue, principal of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School.

Similarly, Tran Van On Secondary School (Ben Nghe Ward) is also thoroughly preparing for digital transformation training, including the application of AI in teaching for teachers. It is expected that around August 15, this school will train on digital transformation and the use of AI in teaching for all 90 staff members, teachers and employees of the school.

Ms. Nguyen Doan Trang, principal of Tran Van On Secondary School, said that the school planned to provide additional training on digital transformation and AI application for teachers this summer in mid-August because the school is under repair and cannot be implemented in June and July. However, due to the need to enhance teachers' digital capacity, the school has planned to conduct training in mid-August.

Using and mastering AI

According to Ms. Doan Trang, regarding AI, the school has required teachers to self-review and self-train through regular programs of the Ministry of Education and Training .

"However, we realize that in the current teaching context, teachers need to further improve their digital skills and thoroughly apply technology, AI... to teaching and management, so this summer we invited technology experts to provide additional training for teachers.

It is important for teachers to have a technological foundation and digital competence because they will need to use it to assess students' abilities in a changing teaching context. On the other hand, they also need to quickly grasp technological changes to make their lessons meet new teaching requirements," said Ms. Doan Trang.

Mr. Tran Vu Nguyen, official global lecturer of Google for Education, said that currently Google AI academy - Gemini Academy is coordinating with the Center for Information and Educational Programs (Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City) to conduct training on "Application of AI in teaching and learning for teachers". Currently, more than 7,000 teachers in Ho Chi Minh City and more than 5,000 teachers nationwide have completed this program.

According to Mr. Nguyen, in addition to AI application skills, training on AI-appropriate thinking and principles of ethical conduct, responsibility and safety for AI in education is extremely necessary.

Assessing the need to improve digital capacity and the use of AI in teaching, Mr. Vo Do Thang, director of Athena Cyber Security Training Consulting Center, noted that along with this training, teachers also need to clearly understand the negative aspects of AI for students and the younger generation.

"Teachers need to be equipped with technology skills so that they can guide students in this digital age to not only know how to use but also master AI, not abuse AI in learning and in life. Therefore, technology training for teachers is extremely important today," Mr. Thang assessed.

AI teachers are expected to be available.

The AI Experience program co-developed by Google Deepmind - the brain of all of Google's AI inventions - has also granted AI Education - a fully authorized unit of Google education in Vietnam - to localize and deploy AI training for students according to international standards.

The program is currently being evaluated by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City. One of the notable points is that there will be a plan to officially train teachers of the school to become AI subject teachers based on the account system that Google has provided to all schools.
