Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong praised the advanced models and remarkable achievements of the industry in recent times; at the same time, he emphasized that the emulation movement needs to go into depth, be substantial, avoid formality so that there will be more typical examples such as athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh.
At the Conference, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that praising advanced models is something that should be done and should be done regularly because it will be a driving force to encourage the emulation movement. From there, many good lessons and good practices can be drawn to replicate and spread good things.
Praising typical advanced examples like Nguyen Thi Oanh, the Deputy Minister emphasized that from the example of athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh, we not only see a model of determination and courage to overcome difficulties, but also recognize the true value of sports in fostering the spirit of overcoming fate, conquering challenges and spreading positive inspiration to the community.
That example urges every young Vietnamese person today to dare to dream, dare to commit and constantly strive to assert themselves, contributing to building a strong society from people with rich inner strength.
The Deputy Minister hopes that the sports industry will continue to launch emulation movements in a practical and effective manner, avoiding formalities so that the whole industry can have more bright examples like athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh.
Regarding the work that needs to be carried out in the coming time, the Deputy Minister suggested that the Vietnam Sports Department urgently complete the institutions, mechanisms and policies in the field of physical training and sports.
In which, the Department needs to focus on completing the Projects and documents assigned in 2025, especially the Program for developing key sports to participate in ASIAD, Olympics, Decree replacing Decree 152 of the Government , Plan to summarize and amend and supplement the Law on Physical Training and Sports.
At the same time, we will focus on participating in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand and the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain. The SEA Games is one of the important political tasks of the industry in 2025 and with the achievements, especially at the two recent Games, the Deputy Minister directed that the industry needs to make efforts to complete the set goals.
To improve and enhance achievements, the Deputy Minister directed the industry to enhance the effectiveness of applying science and technology, AI and sports medicine in association with high-level sports training. In particular, focusing on piloting the application of AI technology in training with 4 key subjects: Shooting, Archery, Taekwondo, Boxing, then summarizing, drawing experience and expanding to other subjects.
Another important task of the Vietnam Sports Department was also mentioned by Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, which is that the Department continues to improve the organization and apparatus of the Department and its affiliated units to ensure streamlining and efficiency, avoiding overlapping functions and tasks between units in performing public duties.
Continue to advise and propose solutions to remove and handle difficulties and obstacles in the operations of a number of public service units under the Department, especially the National Sports Complex.
Comprehensive Development Stage: From Movement to Peak
Presenting a report summarizing the emulation and reward work for the 5-year period 2020 - 2025 and the direction and tasks for the period 2026 - 2030, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department Le Thi Hoang Yen affirmed: Along with the country's comprehensive innovation process, Vietnam's sports and physical training career has made great strides.
Fields such as mass sports; high-performance sports; socialization of physical training and sports; investment in building infrastructure; and international cooperation in physical training and sports have all developed equally. These achievements have contributed positively to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.
Notably, high-performance sports have made positive changes. Achievements in a number of Olympic sports have improved significantly; competition results at regional, continental and world sports events have achieved many impressive results.
Vietnam is often in the top 3 countries at the SEA Games. Some athletes in Olympic sports such as shooting, swimming, weightlifting, badminton... have reached the continental and world level.
At international competitions, many young talents in athletics, gymnastics, weightlifting, taekwondo, shooting, rowing, chess, wrestling, wushu... have brought home prestigious medals for the Fatherland.
In particular, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh made history by becoming the first Vietnamese athlete to win 4 gold medals at a single SEA Games. With this outstanding achievement, she was awarded the Second Class Labor Medal by the President.
Runner Nguyen Thi Oanh: "There is no road paved with roses"
As one of the advanced models honored at the Conference, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh shared her emotional story about her journey to overcome adversity. Overcoming glomerulonephritis, which once seemed to have ended her career, Oanh returned to the track with a strong spirit and deep gratitude to her teachers, teammates and the sports industry who have always accompanied her.
“Sports have come and changed my life. Sports have helped me become more resilient, more courageous and more determined; they have helped me dare to face difficulties and challenges” – Oanh shared.
She also sent an inspirational message to the younger generation: “There is no path paved with roses. I hope that young people will always be persistent, courageous and innovative; dare to dream, dare to aspire and dare to conquer.”
Closing her speech, Nguyen Thi Oanh affirmed her determination to continue contributing and bringing more achievements to Vietnamese sports: “I am proud to be born and raised in Vietnam. I promise to continue to try and strive even harder to contribute to the overall development of Vietnamese Sports.”
At the Conference, Nguyen Thi Oanh was one of 7 individuals awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department.
Accelerating the implementation of tasks in the last 6 months of 2025
Reporting at the Conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Nguyen Hong Minh said that in the first 6 months of 2025, the whole industry has focused on implementing key tasks, especially preparations for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand and the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain; implementing Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW of the Politburo; Strategy for physical training and sports development to 2030, vision to 2045.
The Department also actively reviewed and advised on institutions and policies; rectified administrative discipline and order; handled outstanding issues in the field of physical training and sports; and focused on perfecting the organizational structure according to the new model of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Thanks to the close direction of the Ministry's leaders and close coordination with sports federations, associations and localities, many tasks in the first 6 months of the year were completed with positive results.
To create a breakthrough in the last 6 months of the year, the Department of Physical Training and Sports has set out a series of key tasks: Creating a breakthrough in perfecting institutions and policies; removing bottlenecks in implementing medium and long-term development strategies; focusing on reviewing and evaluating the implementation of the Law on Physical Training and Sports; completing the draft Decree replacing Decree 152/2018/ND-CP on the regime for athletes and sports coaches.
Along with that, the Department will continue to rectify discipline and administrative order; innovate management thinking; improve the efficiency of career activities; promote organizational arrangement towards streamlining and efficiency; promote digital transformation and application of science and technology in the field of physical training and sports, gradually building a modern, professional Vietnamese sports foundation and deeply integrating with the international community.
