Be careful of the high price increase and shocking discount on Black Friday, buyers will be overcharged

Việt NamViệt Nam17/11/2023

These days, Black Friday has become a trending keyword, dominating social media and e-commerce platforms. Advertisements for massive discounts of up to 70-80% are plastered all over sidewalks and shopping malls.

In particular, Black Friday promotions are taking place extensively across various sectors such as fashion , cosmetics, electronics, household appliances, refrigeration, healthcare products, food services, and entertainment…

For shopaholics, Black Friday is a golden opportunity to find huge discounts and own items at unbeatable prices. So, what should you buy on Black Friday 2023?

Unlike monthly or weekly sales events, Black Friday is the biggest discount storm of the year. Therefore, instead of hunting for small-value discounted items, for Black Friday 2023 you should prioritize buying products from major international and Vietnamese brands that are widely recognized for their quality.

For example, in the fashion industry, both world-renowned and domestic brands are offering deep discounts of up to 80% during this period.

The technology sector also has many brands that regularly participate in Black Friday promotions... In addition, some large electronics supermarket chains will also have their own programs for electronics, home appliances, and household goods.

On Black Friday, most major brands offer discounts, giving you the chance to own high-end items at the lowest possible prices. However, designer goods usually come with a high price tag and rarely go on massive sale.

Currently, there are opportunities to buy products from major brands at bargain prices. However, before buying, you should also consider your needs and the product's practicality to avoid wasting money in the current difficult economic climate where people are having to tighten their belts.

Making a shopping list is absolutely essential. Massive sales can be overwhelming, confusing, and easily lead you to overbuy, including items you rarely use.

Furthermore, it's advisable to thoroughly research the product you intend to buy, comparing prices and product quality across multiple stores. This is because many stores currently take advantage of the Black Friday effect to inflate prices significantly before offering discounts; in reality, the original price and the discounted price are not much different.

Raising prices to mitigate shock

In fact, during the previous Black Friday season, a video appeared on TikTok exposing brands for using the tactic of inflating product prices to offer shock discounts.

The person in the video bought a bag for 350,000 VND at a shopping mall because it was on sale. When they got home and removed the price tag, they discovered an old tag had been pasted over it, showing the product price as 320,000 VND. That means, even though it was on sale, it was still 30,000 VND more expensive than the original price.

The Wall Street Journal also found that one-fifth of the discounted items it tracked would increase in price by 8% before Black Friday. Even toys and gadgets would see price increases of up to 23% before the sale began.

CNN and Forbes also reported that major retailers often sell "special" electronics, manufactured by big brands exclusively for Black Friday. Unfortunately, these items are of lower quality than usual.

During Black Friday, many retailers even order TVs from manufacturers, offering them at incredibly attractive discounted prices for models identical to the ones you usually see. However, these often have inferior screen quality or lack some of the standout features.

Therefore, if you're thinking about buying a new TV on Black Friday, do your research on the model thoroughly. If a particular model is only offered by a single manufacturer, reconsider your decision. Don't buy it during this period because it's very likely that this particular TV model was produced exclusively for Black Friday.
