'Hot' warning from the State Bank: Fake websites appear, containing malware to steal money

DNVN - The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has just issued an urgent warning about the appearance of fake websites impersonating the agency's official electronic information portal.

Phishing websites not only copy the interface to deceive users but also spread malicious code, potentially causing the theft of personal data and money in bank accounts.

According to the Department of Information Technology (SBV), through network security monitoring, the authorities have discovered at least two fake domains: https://sbvhn[.]com and https://state-bank[.]vercel[.]app. These sites lure users to download application installation files in “.apk” format - originally for the Android operating system - but contain malicious code inside. When installed on the device, the malicious code can bypass security layers, gain access to personal data, bank accounts and conduct fraudulent transactions to appropriate assets.

The State Bank affirms that the official and only electronic information portal of this agency is at: https://sbv.gov.vn . Users should absolutely not access or provide personal information on websites that show signs of fraud, and should only download applications from official stores such as the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).

The Department of Information Technology also requested agencies, units and commercial banks to increase public notification to employees and customers to identify new forms of fraud. In case of detecting a website suspected of impersonating the State Bank, it is necessary to promptly notify the Department of Information Technology via phone number 0848595983 or email [email protected] for timely handling.

In fact, the impersonation of banks to commit fraud is not new but is increasingly sophisticated. Not only Techcombank and Vietcombank, but many other credit institutions have also had their brands exploited to spread fake links and steal customer information. The tricks often revolve around impersonating bank employees, sending documents with fake stamps and signatures, or giving reasons such as annual fee refunds or credit card renewals, thereby tricking users into accessing malicious links.

Banks have repeatedly advised customers not to click on strange links, not to provide card information, accounts and personal data via unknown websites. Just one careless action can cause users to lose money unjustly due to high-tech crimes.
