This deal was activated as the European football transfer window was about to close. Lille are reported to have spent €3 million to sign Indonesian defender Calvin Verdonk from NEC Nijmegen on a three-year contract.
At Lille, Calvin Verdonk will wear the number 24 shirt. After signing the Indonesian national team defender, Lille's president, Olivier Letang, explained why the French club took an interest in Calvin Verdonk.
"Calvin Verdonk is a highly experienced player, a complete left-back in both attack and defense," Letang stated on the club's official website.
Calvin Verdonk (28 years old) is an Indonesian footballer of Dutch descent. He obtained Indonesian citizenship in June 2024. Since then, Calvin Verdonk has made 10 appearances for the Indonesian national team, playing a major role in helping the team reach the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
By joining Lille, Verdonk became the first Indonesian player to play in the French Championship (Ligue 1). Calvin Verdonk also made history as Lille's first Asian international player.
