Viktor Gyokeres' move to Arsenal, once seen as a major turning point in the Swedish striker's career, is now in jeopardy as negotiations continue to stall. According to the Portuguese newspaper Maisfutebol , frustration reached a peak when Gyokeres' father reportedly broke down in tears on July 19th (local time), fearing his son's dream of playing for Arsenal would vanish.

This is the first time the Gyokeres family has shown such a strong emotional reaction to a transfer deal, highlighting the tension and expectations surrounding the transaction. However, Gyokeres' current club, Sporting Lisbon, appears unfazed. Some sources suggest that Portuguese club officials view this as a "pressure tactic" from the player and his agent to force them to compromise.

Gyokeres did not travel to Singapore with Arsenal, and his future remains uncertain.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas remains firm in his position. He demands that the additional €10 million bonus in the deal be "easily achievable" conditions, and declares it a non-negotiable condition for completing the transfer.

Specifically, Sporting proposed a bonus divided into four tiers: €2.5 million after Gyokeres' first 20 appearances for Arsenal; an additional €2.5 million after the next 20 matches; €2.5 million if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League; and a final €2.5 million if the striker makes another 20 appearances in the following season. Arsenal argued that these terms needed to be redesigned to ensure at least one milestone was more challenging, rather than making all the clauses too lenient.

While the add-on fee remains a sticking point, the main transfer fee has been agreed verbally. Arsenal and Sporting have agreed on a figure of €63.5 million (approximately £55 million). This agreement was finalized after Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, agreed to waive the 10% intermediary commission to simplify the payment structure.

However, because the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on bonus terms, the contract has not been officially signed. In this context, Arsenal departed for Singapore on July 19th without Gyokeres in their squad, indicating that the deal is still a long way from becoming a reality.

According to the schedule, Arsenal will have a series of friendly matches in Asia, facing AC Milan on July 23, Newcastle on July 27, and concluding the tour with a match against Tottenham in Hong Kong (China) on July 31. Gyokeres' absence from this tour is a clear sign that time is running out if the two sides want to finalize the deal before the new season.
