Correcting the construction of level crossings in Ho Chi Minh City to avoid traffic jams

Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy has just signed a document requesting the Vietnam Railway Department and the Vietnam Railway Corporation to rectify the construction and repair work at level crossings on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line.

The Ministry of Transport announced that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport had sent a document to the Ministry of Transport regarding the traffic congestion and safety hazards caused by construction work on railway level crossings in the city.

The Ministry of Transport has requested the Vietnam Railway Authority and the Vietnam Railway Corporation to rectify this situation and continue to strengthen measures to prevent similar incidents and accidents from occurring, ensuring convenient and safe travel for people crossing level crossings in Ho Chi Minh City, especially during the Tet holiday train period.

Accordingly, Vietnam Railways Corporation is urgently directing contractors repairing level crossings in Ho Chi Minh City to implement measures to ensure traffic safety; to conduct construction at appropriate times during the repair of existing level crossings to ensure traffic safety and minimize traffic congestion at the level crossings, especially during peak hours in the city, avoiding situations where construction causes traffic safety hazards or congestion.

The Corporation must request the Project Management Board to strengthen inspections and reviews of all construction sites, and take specific measures to handle contractors who violate traffic safety regulations during construction, in order to ensure timely completion and absolute safety of train operation and railway traffic; proactively coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport on construction organization plans to minimize the impact on traffic and traffic safety at the level crossing under construction.

At the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision of compliance with regulations on ensuring order and traffic safety in the railway sector for contractors working on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line, and strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate regulations on construction on operating railways.

Regarding the Vietnam Railway Authority, the Ministry of Transport requires it to direct the Railway Inspection force to closely coordinate with the Traffic Safety Board, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, and railway units to inspect the work of ensuring order and safety on railways, especially in areas with many level crossings between railways and roads; promptly prevent and strictly handle violations within their authority or propose to competent authorities to handle cases of violations in the field of ensuring order and safety on railways.
