Problems at the Asian Youth Games
Held every four years, the Asian Youth Games are an important platform for young talents across the continent, serving as a benchmark for assessing the strength and investment in young athletes by various countries and territories. However, after the first edition in 2009 in Singapore, the second in Nanjing (China) in 2013, and the subsequent plans to hold the Games in 2017 in Sri Lanka and then Indonesia, which were ultimately cancelled. In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the Asian Youth Games to be cancelled again. Returning this year, the Games were initially planned for Uzbekistan but were officially hosted by Bahrain.

In previous Asian Youth Games appearances, Vietnam achieved its greatest success in 2013, winning 5 gold medals thanks to Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (3 gold medals in swimming), Ly Hoang Nam (1 gold medal in tennis), and Nguyen Thi Truc Mai (1 gold medal in athletics). Following this Games, Anh Vien continuously achieved success on the international stage, dominating at the SEA Games and constantly improving her performance, competing in continental and world swimming championships. Similarly, Ly Hoang Nam later ventured into professional tennis, winning numerous titles in international tennis tournaments and reaching his highest career ranking of 231 in the world. The long interruption of the Asian Youth Games significantly impacted the training and development of future athletes in countries and territories in the region. Vietnamese sports have also been somewhat affected, because to this day we have yet to see any talent capable of replacing their predecessors Ly Hoang Nam and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.
Waiting for young talents to shine.
At the 2025 Asian Youth Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation will participate with 75 members, competing in athletics, badminton, jujitsu, boxing, judo, wrestling, weightlifting, taekwondo, golf, cycling, and muay. It is regrettable that Vietnam will not participate in some popular sports such as volleyball, basketball, and futsal…
According to the leaders of the Vietnam Sports Department, the athletes participating in the 2025 Asian Youth Games were carefully selected and well-prepared both professionally and psychologically. They promise to be the next generation of Vietnamese athletes aiming for high achievements in the ASIAD and Olympic competitions.
Since the beginning of September, members training for the 2025 Asian Youth Games have been enjoying special treatment. In addition to training, many athletes have been given opportunities to participate in domestic and international competitions to hone their skills and gain experience. At this year's Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation hopes for the brilliance of talents such as Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen (badminton), Hoang Le Quynh Nhu (athletics), Y Lien, Dao Thi Yen (weightlifting), Tran Mai Anh, Le Phan Tuan Kiet, Bui Mai Phuong (taekwondo), Nguyen Khang Ha My, Bui Dam Mai Chi (cycling), Dinh Thi Ru Na, Nguyen Thi Hong Yen (boxing)...
