On November 27th, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital ( Hanoi ) reported that it had recently admitted a series of patients due to playing with homemade firecrackers.
Previously, NK (13 years old) and NTA (14 years old), two cousins residing in Vinh Phuc , had set up explosives and learned how to make firecrackers online. Afterward, the homemade firecrackers exploded, sending both of them to the hospital with bleeding wounds on both hands.
In particular, K.'s injuries to both hands were very severe, involving crushing and open fractures of the metacarpophalangeal joints.
The other case involves a 12-year-old patient from Hung Yen who was admitted to the hospital with a fractured left hand and a wound on the left lower leg.
At Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the number of accidents caused by homemade firecrackers always increases significantly during and leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).
The main causes often stem from purchasing illegal fireworks of unknown origin, accessing unofficial information on social media, and making fireworks at home. These accidents not only cause serious physical injuries but also leave severe psychological and financial consequences for the victims and their families.
Doctors advise people against illegally manufacturing or using firecrackers, especially homemade ones. This is not only a violation of the law but also poses a risk of serious injury, even death.
People need to raise awareness, absolutely not buy, sell or use illegal fireworks and need to guide their children to stay away from these dangerous actions to protect their own safety and the community.
