Technology is revolutionizing many industries.

Artificial Intelligence - AI has become a foundational technology for business strategy and businesses increasingly feel the urgency to adopt and deploy AI.

According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy, senior lecturer in AI at the Faculty of Science , Engineering and Technology of RMIT University Vietnam, McKinsey Global Institute has predicted that by 2030, AI is expected to automate 30% of working hours in the US, with Agentic AI expected to take over the majority of office work within the next ten years. AI is developing at a dizzying pace and Agentic AI is at the forefront of this revolution.

Informing VietNamNet reporter , Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy said, Agentic AI (also known as AI agent - PV) and Generative AI (generative AI) are two different application development directions of AI technology, with their own specific roles and applications.

While Generative AI focuses on the ability to create content, from text, images to programming code, by learning from available data and creating new products that simulate human thinking, Agentic AI aims for autonomy, with the goal of not only reacting but also making decisions and taking actions to complete tasks.

“Agentic AI is applied in fields that require handling real-life situations such as autonomous robots, intelligent virtual assistants, or complex process management. Agentic AI is often developed based on Generative AI with the addition of components such as memory, scheduling and decision-making capabilities. If Generative AI is the content writer, then Agentic AI is the one who makes decisions and implements actions to achieve the set goals,” Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy explained.

Commenting that Agentic AI is revolutionizing many industries, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy analyzed: In medicine, Agentic AI can personalize treatment regimens and support real-time decision making.

For example, the technology can monitor patient health indicators in real time, identify potential complications before they become serious, and suggest preventive measures.

Manufacturing will benefit from AI-based predictive maintenance and production lines. Some technology companies such as Siemens are already using AI to predict equipment failures, reducing downtime and extending machine life.

Along with that, the retail and e-commerce sector will also witness innovations in inventory management and personalization of shopping experiences.

“Although many applications of Agentic AI are still in the testing or pilot phase, more and more industries are starting to use this technology in practice,” Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy added.

Vietnamese businesses need to invest in AI-based innovation

The “AI Readiness Index” report published by Cisco at the end of 2024 showed that in Vietnam, 100% of surveyed businesses said they had a need to deploy AI, mainly due to the promotion of CEOs and management.

Additionally, businesses are committing large resources to AI, with 48% of companies reporting that 10% to 30% of their IT budget is allocated to AI implementation.

Cisco experts also noted that to fully realize the potential of AI, businesses need a modern digital infrastructure that can meet the growing energy demands and network latency requirements of increasingly large AI processing workloads.

Emphasizing once again that the rise of Agentic AI will have a strong impact on many industries, RMIT Vietnam expert Nguyen Thi Thuy recommends: Vietnamese businesses need to proactively embrace this technology by investing in AI-based innovation, improving the skills of the workforce and promoting strategic cooperation.

“The above efforts not only help improve competitiveness but also ensure sustainable and comprehensive economic growth in the digital age,” said an RMIT Vietnam expert.

However, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy also said that, in addition to the outstanding benefits, integrating Agentic AI into business operations also raises ethical and practical issues that need to be considered. Ensuring privacy and data security is an important requirement when AI systems process sensitive information.

“Businesses also need to address the risk of job displacement due to automation, while investing in retraining programs to prepare employees for new roles in an AI-led work environment ,” Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy noted.
