Vietnam Education Publishing House and Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company have just organized the exchange program "From Reading to Writing - Language Development Journey for Vietnamese Children". This is a special activity to spread the habit of reading in the community and introduce the classic children's book series Papelucho.
The program attracted a large number of students and parents in Ho Chi Minh City when parents asked many questions about how to make their children actively read books, how to build a natural reading habit in an environment full of entertainment devices?

Students ask questions at the program
Mr. Pham Vinh Thai, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, said that in the context of the digital age, when reading culture is facing many challenges, the unit is deeply aware of its role. That is to publish valuable books, literary works that touch the souls of readers to contribute to strengthening and enhancing reading culture in the community, especially the young generation. "We want to ensure that in addition to knowledge in school, students also have great book friends to enrich their souls, expand their critical thinking and develop their language," said Mr. Thai.

According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association , children only truly read when they feel their curiosity is aroused and they have the freedom to choose.
At the program, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, explained why children are gradually moving away from books in an era surrounded by countless sources of knowledge.
Children only truly read when they feel their curiosity is piqued and they have the freedom to choose, and this requires parents to be patient and supportive, not imposing. Parents need to proactively create a language-rich environment, read with their children, discuss books openly so that children can see the joy and discovery through each page, thereby forming a habit of reading voluntarily and sustainably. Parents can encourage their children to write down their day, a small thought, a funny thing they encountered in class. All those lines, no matter how trivial, are the foundation for creativity.

Students get to experience and discover a lot of useful knowledge when participating in the challenge stations in the program.
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, reading is not just about receiving information but also about creating an inner world. A child who does not read will lack imagination, empathy and will have difficulty expressing their own complex emotions. Reading is the way to help children maintain a deep connection with language and humanity.
According to Mr. Thieu, one of the most effective ways to build a reading habit for children is to accompany them to read stories at home. This is not just sitting next to them and turning a few pages of a book, but a journey of sharing emotions, a moment when adults and children meet in the world of words. Children learn habits from the presence of adults. When adults read together, children will feel that reading is not a task but a joy to share. "When children perceive the beauty of language, when seemingly small details suddenly become an excitement every night, children will naturally want to "continue their story". That is the moment when children move from passive reading to active writing, an important turning point in the journey of cultivating thinking and creativity" - Mr. Thieu shared.

Papelucho - the book that conquered 11 million readers worldwide comes to Vietnam
Papelucho is not just a story but a whole world of emotions told through the innocent and mischievous perspective of an 8-year-old boy. Papelucho's diary records seemingly trivial things in life, childish questions, mistakes, silly but interesting moments. It is this honesty that makes the book a living proof that a children's diary can absolutely become a classic literary work. And it is also this that can become a source of inspiration for Vietnamese children today to start their own writing journey, with the first pages, simple but full of life.
