On the evening of January 30th, in Hanoi , President Vo Van Thuong and his wife hosted a grand reception for Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his wife, on the occasion of their state visit to Vietnam.
Speaking at the reception, President Vo Van Thuong expressed that the first visit of the President and First Lady to Vietnam, taking place on the eve of the traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year, in the atmosphere of spring, brought to the country and people of Vietnam the sincere and warm feelings of the country and people of the Philippines.
This further strengthens confidence in a bright future, opens up new prospects, and further solidifies the friendship and good cooperation between Vietnam and the Philippines, leading up to the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2025) and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (2026).

The President stated that the Philippines and its people have long been close to the Vietnamese people. The land of a thousand islands, with its diverse culture, numerous famous landmarks, vibrant festivals, and open and friendly people, has always attracted Vietnam and the world.
Vietnam and the Philippines are neighbors and fellow ASEAN members, sharing similar population sizes, a long history of maritime trade, and a shared pride in common values regarding nature, history, culture, and a vision for the prosperity and happiness of their people, and for a sustainable and prosperous ASEAN.
The President was pleased to note that, over the past nearly 50 years, through the ups and downs of history, political trust has been nurtured by the efforts of generations of high-ranking and all-level leaders of both countries.
This forms the foundation for both sides to build broad and deep cooperation, achieving many results in key areas such as politics, diplomacy, economics, defense and security, maritime affairs, agriculture, fisheries, education and training, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges... and the prospect of expanding into new, potential areas...
As two dynamic and complementary economies, the President expressed confidence that bilateral trade turnover would soon reach $10 billion in the not-too-distant future.
"I believe that the major directions and measures to further promote relations between the two countries, and the documents and agreements reached during the President's visit, will be effectively and substantively implemented by both sides, bringing the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines to a new level of strength, for the happiness and prosperity of the people of both countries, and making an important contribution to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world," the President expressed.
With both countries being active members of ASEAN, the President stated that the two countries are connected by shared values, a common vision, and a common determination to cooperate in overcoming contemporary and global challenges, uniting to build an independent, self-reliant, and strong Southeast Asia, and a unified and sustainably developing ASEAN community.

Speaking at the reception, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. shared the same views as Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and stated that the friendly relationship between the two countries over the past nearly 50 years has been strengthened by shared values in history, culture, and aspirations for development.
The two countries have witnessed a gradual deepening of political, economic, defense, maritime cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. This truly marks a vibrant and profound strategic partnership between the two sides.
President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. recalled the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed pleasure at the continuous development of bilateral relations. In the post-pandemic context, both countries share a desire to ensure a resilient and adaptable supply chain through increased bilateral trade.

According to the Philippine head of state, the relationship between the two countries is a testament to the limitless possibilities ahead as they cooperate to build a resilient world and resilient nations. On behalf of the Government and people of the Philippines, the President expressed gratitude to President Vo Van Thuong for this opportunity, which helped the two countries reaffirm and promote bilateral relations.
