There are 699 new COVID-19 cases in 36 provinces and cities

- From 4 PM on May 17th to 4 PM on May 18th, the National COVID-19 Case Management System recorded 699 new infections, all domestically (a decrease of 24 cases compared to the previous day), across 36 provinces and cities (including 509 community cases).

- The provinces and cities that recorded cases are as follows: Hanoi (141), Nghe An (48), Ho Chi Minh City (39), Phu Tho (36), Lao Cai (33), Bac Ninh (32), Yen Bai (32), Hai Phong (30), Quang Ninh (26), Da Nang (24), Nam Dinh (19), Tuyen Quang (18), Vinh Phuc (17), Thai Binh (16), Thai Nguyen (16), Bac Kan (16), Ninh Binh (15), Hai Duong (13), Bac Giang (13), Ha Giang (12), Son La (12), Quang Tri (12), Quang Binh (12), Ha Nam (12), Lam Dong (7), Binh Phuoc (7), Cao Bang (7), Hoa Binh (6), Lang Son (6), Hung Yen (6), Thanh Hoa (5), Lai Chau (3), Dien Bien (2), Khanh Hoa (2), Ben Tre (2), Dong Thap (2).

- Localities recording the largest decrease in infections compared to the previous day: Thua Thien Hue (-17), Phu Tho (-14), Vinh Phuc (-12).

- Localities recording the highest increase in infections compared to the previous day: Hai Phong (+21), Ho Chi Minh City (+15), Nghe An (+11).

- The average number of new domestic infections recorded over the past 7 days is 729 cases/day.


The COVID-19 situation in Vietnam:

- Since the beginning of the pandemic, Vietnam has recorded 10,737,107 cases, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories. In terms of the number of cases per million people, Vietnam ranks 104th out of 227 countries and territories (an average of 108,426 cases per million people).

- Fourth wave of the pandemic (from April 27, 2021 to present):

The number of confirmed cases in the country is 10,729,341, of which 9,594,558 patients have been declared recovered.

+ Localities recording high cumulative infection numbers during this outbreak: Hanoi (1,603,801), Ho Chi Minh City (609,814), Nghe An (485,265), Bac Giang (387,675), Binh Duong (383,794).

COVID-19 treatment situation

1. Number of patients who have recovered:

- Number of patients declared recovered today: 5,889

- Total number of recovered cases: 9,597,375

2. The number of patients currently receiving oxygen is 55 , including:

- Oxygen therapy via mask: 47 cases

- High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy: 3 cases

- Non-invasive mechanical ventilation: 2 cases

- Invasive mechanical ventilation: 3 cases

- ECMO: 0 cases

3. Number of deaths:

- From 5:30 PM on May 17th to 5:30 PM on May 18th, 0 deaths were recorded.

- Average number of deaths recorded over the past 7 days: 0 cases.

- The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,083, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections.

- The total number of deaths ranks 24th out of 227 territories, and the number of deaths per million population ranks 130th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide. Compared to Asia, the total number of deaths ranks 6th out of 49 (3rd in ASEAN), and the number of deaths per million population ranks 25th out of 49 Asian countries and territories (4th in ASEAN).

Testing situation

From April 27, 2021 to the present, 39,514,123 samples have been tested, equivalent to 85,823,796 people.

COVID-19 vaccination situation

On May 17th, 335,942 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered. Thus, the total number of vaccine doses administered is 225,255,875, including:

The total number of doses for individuals aged 18 and over is 201,966,884: Dose 1: 71,488,967 doses; Dose 2: 68,831,884 doses; Dose 3: 1,508,271 doses; Supplementary dose: 14,968,006 doses; First booster dose: 43,450,365 doses; Second booster dose: 1,719,391 doses.

The total number of doses for children aged 12-17 years is 17,514,225: Dose 1 is 8,953,920 doses; Dose 2 is 8,560,305 doses.

The total number of doses for children aged 5-11 years is 5,774,766: Dose 1 is 4,975,443 doses; Dose 2 is 799,323 doses.

Around the world

- Globally, there are 543,771,010 confirmed cases, including 518,938,854 recoveries; 6,339,802 deaths; and 18,492,354 active cases (36,103 of which are in serious condition).

- On this day, the number of infections worldwide increased by 560,088 cases, and the number of deaths increased by 1,435 cases.

- Europe saw an increase of 205,895 cases; North America an increase of 125,755 cases; South America an increase of 49,657 cases; Asia an increase of 141,613 cases; Africa an increase of 5,443 cases; and Oceania an increase of 31,725 ​​cases.

- In Southeast Asia, 11,168 cases were recorded today, including: Indonesia (up 1,220 cases), Malaysia (up 2,130 cases), Thailand (up 2,272 cases), Philippines (up 539 cases), Singapore (up 4,979 cases), Myanmar (up 7 cases), Laos (up 21 cases), Cambodia (up 0 cases), and East Timor (up 0 cases).
