(CLO) On November 18th, the People's Committee of Tan Son district (Phu Tho province) held a ceremony to announce and present the Decision to include "Traditional handicraft - brocade weaving of the Muong ethnic people in Kim Thuong and Xuan Dai communes" in the list of national intangible cultural heritage, recognize tourist destinations in Xuan Son commune, and inaugurate the 2024 District Cultural and Sports Festival.


Speaking at the ceremony, Vi Manh Hung, Head of the Propaganda Department of Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee, acknowledged and praised the proactive efforts of the Culture, Sports and Tourism sector, the endeavors of the Party Committee and government of Tan Son district and the communes of Xuan Dai, Kim Thuong, and Xuan Son, as well as Xuan Son National Park and the support of businesses and organizations, which have contributed to protecting and promoting the cultural heritage values ​​of the district.

Phu Tho announces the national intangible cultural heritage of the Muong ethnic group's brocade weaving craft in Tan Son district (Figure 1).

The Head of the Propaganda Department of the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee and leaders of the Phu Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented the Decision recognizing provincial-level tourist destinations to representatives of the Party Committee and government of Xuan Son commune.

Vi Manh Hung, Head of the Propaganda Department of Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee, requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with other departments and Tan Son district, to urgently take concrete measures to preserve and promote cultural heritage values. This includes linking cultural heritage with tourism development, creating new and unique tourism products for Tan Son district and the province to attract tourists and businesses, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.

In particular, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province will support and prioritize traditional handicraft villages and households to invest in infrastructure and equipment to serve the development of traditional handicraft villages. Tan Son district will continue to research and issue a Resolution on protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritage in the district in general, and the national intangible cultural heritage of the traditional craft "Brocade weaving" in particular, in conjunction with tourism development.

The Head of the Propaganda Department of the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee and leaders of the Phu Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented the certificate from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which designates the traditional brocade weaving craft of the Muong people in Xuan Dai and Kim Thuong communes, Tan Son district, as a national intangible cultural heritage, to the Party Committee, government, and artisans of Xuan Dai and Kim Thuong communes.

At the ceremony, Vi Manh Hung, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee, and leaders of the Phu Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented certificates from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, including the traditional brocade weaving craft of the Muong people in Xuan Dai and Kim Thuong communes, Tan Son district, in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List, to representatives of the Party Committee, government, and artisans of Xuan Dai and Kim Thuong communes.

At the same time, the Tan Son District People's Committee announced the Decision of the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee on recognizing provincial-level tourist destinations including: Du Village Community Tourism Destination, Coi Village Community Ecotourism Destination, and Ngoc Waterfall Ecotourism Destination - Xuan Son Commune.

It is known that the traditional brocade weaving craft of the Muong ethnic people in Tan Son district has been established for a long time, and to this day still preserves many traditional values, bearing the distinctive cultural characteristics of the Muong people.

Over the years, Phu Tho province has issued many mechanisms and policies aimed at preserving and promoting the value of typical traditional cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in general, and the brocade weaving craft of the Muong people in Tan Son district in particular.

Accordingly, the Tan Son District People's Committee has issued specialized resolutions and plans for the preservation and development of several unique cultural forms of ethnic minorities in the district, including brocade weaving. Simultaneously, it has focused on implementing many comprehensive solutions to preserve and promote traditional cultural forms in conjunction with tourism development, aiming to achieve the goal of "Preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, creating momentum for sustainable socio-economic development, and developing tourism into a key economic sector."

The traditional brocade weaving craft of the Muong people in Xuan Dai and Kim Thuong communes has been included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Crafts by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, according to Decision No. 2322/QD-BVHTTDL dated August 9, 2024. Along with the Dao people's coming-of-age ceremony, the Muong brocade weaving craft is the second intangible cultural heritage of Tan Son district to be included in the national list of intangible cultural heritage.
