Nghi Son Thermal Power Company: Proactively responding to extreme weather

Faced with climate change, Nghi Son Thermal Power Company has synchronously deployed many solutions to ensure stable, safe and reliable operation in all weather conditions.

Located in the coastal area of ​​Thanh Hoa , which is often affected by storms and tropical depressions, Nghi Son Thermal Power Company always identifies disaster prevention, control and search and rescue (PCTT&TKCN) as a key and continuous task.

Since the beginning of 2025, the Company's Board of Directors has directed units to review and update the PCTT&TKCN plan to be closer to reality, and at the same time organize periodic drills for hypothetical situations such as flooding, lightning strikes or power outages. The drills are carried out seriously, helping the operating team improve their situation handling skills and coordination ability in emergency conditions.

In particular, weather forecasting and monitoring are continuously carried out through early warning systems, data from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and internal digital applications, helping the Company proactively adjust production plans, ensuring safety for equipment and people.

Before each rainy season, the Company inspects and maintains the entire electrical system - from transformers, medium and low voltage cabinets to DCS control systems, protective relays, power cables, grounding and surge protection devices. Potentially unsafe points are promptly handled; industrial cleaning of outdoor equipment is maintained periodically to limit the effects of sea salt vapor, high humidity and increase operational reliability.

In parallel with manual technical control, the Company promotes the application of digital technology and automation in operational management. SCADA, PMIS, EMS systems are effectively exploited, allowing real-time monitoring and analysis of technical parameters, early detection of incident risks. In particular, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in operational data analysis has helped the Company forecast equipment status, optimize maintenance plans, and minimize the risk of sudden machine shutdowns due to weather fluctuations. This is an important step in the roadmap to build a "Digital Power Plant - Smart Operation" according to the direction of EVNGENCO1.

The human factor is always placed at the center. Every year, the Company organizes training courses for hundreds of officers, engineers, and workers on electrical safety, fire prevention, rescue, chemical safety, and environmental incident response. The drills are linked to real-life situations, helping employees to be more proactive, flexible, and professional in handling emergency situations.

Thanks to proactive response, the Company always maintains safe and stable operations, without serious incidents, ensuring continuous power supply to the national power system.
