The General Statistics Office has just released the economic situation for July and the first seven months of this year. The consumer price index (CPI) in July increased by 0.11% compared to the previous month and by 2.13% compared to December 2024. Compared to the same period in 2024, this index increased by 3.19%.
On average, in the first seven months of the year, the CPI increased by 3.26% compared to the same period in 2024. Core inflation increased by 3.18%.
Of the 0.11% increase in the CPI in July compared to the previous month, 9 groups of goods and services saw price increases and 2 groups saw price decreases.
Specifically, the housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials group increased by 0.36% (contributing to a 0.07 percentage point increase in the overall CPI). The increase in this group's price index was mainly due to price increases in several items such as housing maintenance materials (up 1.96%), household electricity (up 1.82%), and kerosene (up 2.64%).

The beverages and tobacco group increased by 0.25% due to increased consumer demand during the summer and rising production costs. The culture, entertainment, and tourism group increased by 0.2%. Within this group, the price of sports venue rentals increased by 0.34%; and television and internet fees increased by 0.32%.
The food and beverage group increased by 0.18% (contributing to a 0.06 percentage point increase in the overall CPI). Within this group, cereals decreased by 0.16%; processed foods increased by 0.15%; and eating out increased by 0.39%.
The household appliances and furnishings group increased by 0.10%. The clothing, hats, and footwear group increased by 0.06%.
The group of medicines and medical services increased by 0.03% due to the rising exchange rate affecting the cost of importing pharmaceuticals and raw materials. The education group increased slightly by 0.01%.
Conversely, two groups of goods and services saw price decreases: the postal and telecommunications group decreased by 0.15%, and the transportation group decreased by 0.48% (contributing to a 0.05 percentage point decrease in the overall CPI). In particular, the gasoline price index decreased by 1.5% due to domestic fuel price adjustments closely following global market developments.
The Statistics Department also reported that several commodity groups saw sharp price increases, such as passenger rail transport (up 10.08%), air passenger transport (up 5.43%), water passenger transport (up 0.21%), and road passenger transport (up 0.15%) due to high travel demand during the summer.
