Samuele Privitera participated in the U23 category of the Giro della Valle d'Aosta cycling race. But unfortunately, on the first stage, an accident happened on July 16.

According to European press, the cyclist of the Hagens Berman Jayco team had an accident while going downhill in Pontey (Italy), at a speed of up to 70km/h. Privitera suddenly crashed into a gate on the race track. At this time, his helmet accidentally fell off, causing him a very serious head injury.

Medical and rescue teams immediately rushed in to save her but found that Privitera's heart had stopped beating.

They took him to Aosta Hospital but there was nothing more they could do. Samuele Privitera passed away at the age of 19 on the track.

The Giro delle Valle d'Aosta organizers have decided to cancel the second stage of the race on July 17 and will resume on July 18. Teams and riders will also observe a minute of silence for the young cyclist.

The Italian authorities have also opened an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The biggest question that needs to be answered is why Privitera's helmet fell off during the race.

In a related development, the prestigious Tour de France cycling race taking place in France also had a moment of remembrance for Samuele Privitera. Before entering the 12th stage of the race, the cyclists took a minute to clap their hands in memory of the unfortunate young man.
