Cuba solemnly celebrates 65 years of diplomatic relations with Vietnam

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung affirmed that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship is a priceless common asset of the two peoples and a shining model in international relations.

According to a VNA reporter in Havana, on December 2, within the framework of his working visit to Cuba, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung and the Vietnamese delegation attended the ceremony to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Cuba-Vietnam diplomatic relations, organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Vista Alegre town, Jaruco district, Mayabeque province.

First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández, many Politburo members, Central Party Secretaries, Party, State and Government leaders, socio-political organizations, and a large number of Cuban people attended the event.

Expressing his honor to attend the ceremony, on behalf of the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung sent warm congratulations to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Cuba. Reviewing important milestones in the history of relations between the two countries, including Cuba being the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and President Fidel Castro being the first and only foreign head of state to visit the liberated zone of South Vietnam in 1973, as well as the two countries' active cooperation and mutual support in the fields of agriculture , health, education and training, digital transformation and judicial reform...

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung affirmed that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship is a priceless common asset of the two peoples and a shining model in international relations; emphasizing that in the coming time, the two countries need to further promote the tradition of solidarity, firmly follow the path of independence and self-reliance, constantly deepen political trust, and expand substantive and creative cooperation in all fields.

The two countries need to continue to accompany each other, share experiences, support each other to overcome difficulties, and work towards sustainable development, raising the relationship to a new level, worthy of the precious legacy that previous generations, including President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, and the people of the two countries have worked hard to cultivate, contributing to building a fair, civilized and progressive world.

In his speech, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed his condolences and solidarity with the Vietnamese people affected by the recent floods and natural disasters. He recalled the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give its blood!”, as well as the special affection of the great President Ho Chi Minh for the Cuban people.

Looking back at 2025 - the year of Vietnam-Cuba friendship, the Cuban leader assessed that the bilateral relationship had a successful year with many important events, including many high-level visits and many particularly useful exchanges between the two Parties and the two countries. Active activities in the Vietnam-Cuba friendship year have brought about clear results, positively impacting the socio-economic development of each country, demonstrating the special solidarity and friendship between the two peoples.

On this occasion, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez also expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese people for donating and supporting the Cuban people through the program organized by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, considering this a testament to the deep, close and sincere affection between the two brotherly countries.

Within the framework of the Celebration, the leaders of the two countries also witnessed the second donation ceremony of the "65 years of Vietnam-Cuba friendship" donation program to support the Cuban people, organized by the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

After the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermúdez and officials from both countries attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Non-refundable aid project for a solar power plant for Cuba, a project expected to help the country overcome current energy difficulties.

According to the plan, Vietnam will support Cuba in building four solar power plants with a total capacity of 80 MW and 20 MW of storage containers in Mayabeque province. This non-refundable aid project once again affirms the saying of Vietnamese leaders that helping the Cuban people is a command of the heart./.
