The launching ceremony was broadcast online to junior high schools, high schools, vocational colleges, etc., with approximately 1.9 million students participating.
"You are never alone."
Launching the campaign, Colonel Bui Thanh Truc, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, stated that cyberspace offers opportunities for learning, entertainment, connection, and creativity. However, where there are opportunities, there are also pitfalls. In reality, there have been cases where malicious individuals have exploited social media to spread false information, impersonate authorities and teachers, and even fabricate "kidnapping" scenarios to commit fraud.
In response to this situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Police launched the campaign "No One Alone - Staying Safe Online Together" with the message: in the online world , no one is alone. Safety is only truly achieved when we protect each other.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among students and the community about the sophisticated tactics of online kidnapping criminals. It equips them with skills to prevent, identify, and respond to dangerous situations online. It fosters a sense of responsibility and solidarity, so that each young person not only knows how to protect themselves but also acts as a "companion" to protect others.
Parents and teachers work together.
Mr. Truc affirmed that this campaign will only succeed with the support of families. Families need to be involved, dedicating more time to caring for and sharing with their children.
Teachers not only impart knowledge but also accompany and guide students in developing digital skills and self-protection skills.
Organizations and groups should actively promote and spread the campaign's message to every school and community. Let's work together to build a "safety shield" from family - school - society, to protect not only children today but also to ensure a safe and healthy future for generations to come.
Ms. Huynh Le Nhu Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, urged teachers not only to impart knowledge but also to be companions to students in the digital space. Parents should also support their children by listening, understanding, and staying updated on new risks in the online environment.
To all students, trainees, and university students: Be brave and speak up if you feel unsafe. Protect your friends. And remember, you are never alone.
Technology reviewer Nguyen Ngoc Duy Luan (Duy Luan the Cute):
Slow and steady wins the race.
When using social media, one of my principles that remains effective to this day is to always verify information. I never blindly trust information on social media; I always check it.
When I see information, I'll jot down keywords and use those keywords to search for it on search engines. I'll check if mainstream news outlets have mentioned the issue; if not, the information might be inaccurate, and then I'll continue searching.
When I receive news about a family member, I will contact them to find out how they are doing. I also instruct my family members to call me if they need to answer any questions or press any button requested by the perpetrator. It takes a little more time, but I think it's better than rushing.
With the recent development of AI, creating video and audio content has become easier, making it more vulnerable to malicious actors who might attempt to impersonate it.
When watching a video on social media, I watch very carefully, scrutinizing the characters' hand movements, whether there's anything strange about their mouth movements, paying close attention to the background, checking for any unusual content, whether the sound is distorted, or if there are any strange sounds that only appear in certain sections.
