On October 20th, according to information from the Hai Phong City Border Guard Command, the search and rescue team of Doan Xa Border Guard Station in Kien Thuy District, Hai Phong City, rescued two crew members of the cargo ship TB 1421 which sank off the Van Uc River.
Accordingly, on the morning of the same day, the Doan Xa Border Guard Station received an urgent rescue request from Mr. VVD, born in 1979, residing in An Ninh commune, Quynh Phu district, Thai Binh province, who is the captain of the transport ship TB 1421. The ship was carrying nearly 1,200 tons of coal slag and was en route from Quang Ninh to Ha Nam.

Upon reaching the Van Uc estuary area in Doan Xa commune, Kien Thuy district, Hai Phong city, the ship sank due to engine failure and was swept ashore by waves at Go Dong, with water flooding the engine room and cargo hold. There were three male crew members on board when the ship sank.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Doan Xa Border Guard Station promptly reported to the Hai Phong City Border Guard Command and notified relevant forces and vessels operating in the Van Uc river mouth area to coordinate rescue efforts. At the same time, they dispatched motorboat BP 02-10-23 carrying 5 officers and soldiers to conduct search and rescue operations.

When the rescue team from Doan Xa Border Guard Station approached, the ship had already sunk, with only half of the cabin remaining above the water. One crew member had been struck against the side of the vessel, sustaining abrasions and bleeding on his left leg.
The Doan Xa Border Guard Station quickly brought the two crew members from the TB 1421 vessel safely ashore (another crew member had previously been rescued by a nearby transport ship and safely transported to Thai Binh province).
Currently, the Doan Xa Border Guard Station is coordinating with relevant authorities to mark the location of the shipwreck and regulate maritime traffic through the Van Uc river mouth area to avoid collisions. At the same time, they are coordinating efforts to find a way to salvage the vessel. The estimated total property damage from the shipwreck is over 5 billion VND .
