This is one of the dangerous, rare obstetric complications with a high mortality rate.

Previously, on July 10, Ms. LTT, 27 years old, residing in Binh Phuoc ward, Dong Nai province, suddenly suffered from massive vaginal bleeding so her family took her to Hoan My Binh Phuoc Hospital for emergency treatment.

Upon admission, the doctors on duty immediately examined and performed urgent tests, and diagnosed the pregnant woman as being in a state of severe hemorrhagic shock due to the placenta accreta deeply invading the uterine muscle and bladder. Recognizing this as a critical situation, the hospital consulted with many different specialties and determined that the pregnant woman and fetus were at high risk of death due to severe hemorrhagic shock.

Specialist Doctor I Hoang Van Thieu, Department of Obstetrics, Hoan My Binh Phuoc Hospital said that after nearly 3 hours, the on-duty team successfully performed the surgery to remove the fetus, remove the uterus, stop bleeding, and suture the bladder for the pregnant woman.

Accordingly, the baby girl weighing 2.6 kg was born safely, but due to being born prematurely, she had weak reflexes and had difficulty breathing when she was delivered. Immediately, the Pediatrics team actively performed resuscitation to stabilize the child's respiratory condition.

After 5 days, both mother and baby were stable, the mother could walk lightly and eat well. This was the third time that mother T. was pregnant and gave birth, and had a history of 2 previous cesarean sections.

Dr. Thieu emphasized that placenta percreta is a dangerous complication that can be fatal if not treated promptly. Pregnant women with a history of multiple cesarean sections, or diagnosed with placenta previa or placenta accreta, need to follow professional instructions and have regular check-ups at specialized medical facilities.
