After the shooting during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13 (local time), Mr. Trump shared on the Truth Social platform: "I had a bullet go through the upper part of my right ear" and "A lot of blood was coming out."

Mr. Trump thanked the US Secret Service and all law enforcement for their quick response to the shooting. "Most importantly, I want to send my condolences to the family of the deceased and the family of the one who is critically injured. It is unbelievable that such an act could happen in our country," Mr. Trump said. Ron Moose, a Trump supporter who was at the event, recounted the incident: "I heard about four shots and I saw the crowd duck, and then Mr. Trump ducked very quickly. Then Secret Service agents all jumped on stage and protected him as soon as they could." Moose said he then saw a man running and being chased by uniformed officers. Moose added that he heard more shots but did not know who fired. Another witness, David McCormick, who sat in the front row at the event, said: "Within a minute or two, I heard multiple gunshots... It was clear it was a shooting. I felt like it was an assassination. It was terrifying." The Secret Service said the shots may have been fired from outside the area it protects. The shooter was neutralized and died, according to a statement from the Secret Service. One person attending Trump's rally was killed, while two others were injured. Reuters news agency quoted a source as saying the incident was being investigated as an "attempted assassination." Trump's campaign confirmed in a joint statement with the Republican National Committee that the former US president was fine after the shooting. "Mr. Trump looks forward to joining all of you in Milwaukee as we hold our convention to nominate him as the 47th President of the United States," the statement said. The Republican National Convention will open in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 15.
