On August 28th, in the capital city of Brasília, the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil solemnly organized a ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025), the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic Service (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025).

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Laudemar Aguiar, Deputy Minister for Trade Promotion, Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil); Ambassador Philip Fox, Deputy Minister for Economy and Finance (Ministry of Foreign Affairs); Air Force Lieutenant General Heraldo Luiz Rodrigues, Deputy Minister for Defence Products and Technology ( Ministry of Defence ); and Mr. Inácio Arruda, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology for Social Development (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation), and President of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association (ABRAVIET).

In addition, more than 300 guests, including representatives from ministries, departments, parliaments, federal district governments, political parties, ambassadors and heads of foreign missions, international organizations, defense attachés, the Honorary Consuls of Vietnam in Bolivia and Brazil, businesses, journalists, academics, Brazilian friends, and the Vietnamese community in Brazil, also attended.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh's reading of the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, not only gave birth to an independent nation but also opened a new era of freedom and happiness for the entire nation. Under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people have overcome all difficulties, achieved independence and national reunification, successfully implemented the Doi Moi (Renovation) process, and transformed Vietnam into a peaceful, stable, friendly, and dynamic nation on the international stage.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi reviewed Vietnam's outstanding achievements over the past 80 years. From a poor and backward country, after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi (Renovation), Vietnam has risen to become one of the world's top 32 economies, among the top 20 countries with the largest foreign trade, and among the top 15 developing countries attracting the largest amount of FDI with over $24 billion, mainly in high technology and renewable energy.

Vietnam's GDP increased from US$6.47 billion in 1990 to over US$476 billion in 2024, and is projected to reach US$500 billion in 2025. Currently, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, comprehensive strategic partnerships with 37 countries, is a member of more than 70 international organizations, has trade relations with 230 countries and territories, and participates in 17 new-generation free trade agreements.

The ambassador also stated that Vietnam is implementing strong administrative reforms, merging and reducing the number of provincial-level administrative units from 63 to 34 (28 provinces and 6 centrally-administered cities), and shifting to a two-tiered local government model (province - commune). Vietnam aims to become a modern, upper-middle-income industrialized country by 2030 – the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party; and to reach the ranks of a developed, high-income country by 2045 – the 100th anniversary of National Day.

Regarding Vietnam-Brazil relations, the Ambassador affirmed that, despite being half a world apart, the two countries share many common values of peace, independence, and development. Bilateral relations were upgraded to a Strategic Partnership at the end of 2024, marking a new turning point. He emphasized the potential for "complementary and unlimited" cooperation, aiming for bilateral trade turnover of at least US$15 billion by 2030. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the connection between the people of the two countries through cultural exchanges and sports cooperation will be the foundation for elevating bilateral relations to a new level.

On behalf of the Brazilian government, Deputy Minister Laudemar Aguiar expressed his honor to attend the ceremony and extended congratulations to Vietnam. He emphasized that on September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh declared independence at Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to a sovereign nation and becoming a symbol of the resilient spirit of the Vietnamese people. Over the past 80 years, Vietnam has steadfastly followed the path of development to build a strong and prosperous nation.

He also recalled the State visit of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Vietnam in March, considering it the most important visit by a Brazilian President to Vietnam, demonstrating the strong friendship between the two countries. He stated that Vietnam is currently a priority strategic partner of Brazil in Southeast Asia, cooperating in agriculture, science and technology, education, defense, trade, and investment.

In 2024, bilateral trade reached nearly $8 billion, marking the first time Brazil exported beef to Vietnam – a testament to the commitment and collaborative efforts of both sides.

Deputy Minister Laudemar Aguiar expressed his confidence that the Vietnam-Brazil relationship will become increasingly strong, based on friendship, mutual respect, and a commitment to peace and sustainable development. He highly appreciated the role of leaders, diplomats, and partners of both countries in promoting the strategic relationship.
