Vietnam and the US have just concluded the third round of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between the two countries, in Washington, USA.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , during the four days of negotiations, the two sides discussed issues of concern expressed in Vietnam's response document, and analyzed and explained them towards appropriate solutions.

The two sides also agreed to hold an online meeting in the coming days to discuss remaining issues. This also prepares for the next online negotiation between US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien.

"Vietnam and the US have made much progress, narrowing the gap in negotiation areas," according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

On the afternoon of the 4th working day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Ambassador Jamieson Greer, the country's Chief Trade Representative. This is the first time the US has proposed a ministerial-level negotiation in this way.

Accordingly, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien proposed a number of ideas to promote the process and bring about the results of the negotiations. Both US ministers highly appreciated and basically agreed with the ideas proposed by Minister Dien, considering them as the basis for the two sides to continue discussing the necessary follow-up work.

Afterwards, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a direct discussion with Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnick. Minister Lutnick affirmed that the US highly values its relationship with Vietnam. He acknowledged Vietnam's suggestions and concerns, and said that he would coordinate with the US Trade Representative to come up with an appropriate solution.

Minister Dien affirmed that Vietnam is determined to build and promote economic and trade relations with the US in a balanced and sustainable manner, for the benefit of both countries. The ministers agreed to assign technical levels of both sides to continue discussions to soon reach an agreement that is in line with the expectations and conditions of each side.

After the US announced the postponement of the imposition of reciprocal tariffs and agreed to start negotiations with Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh established a Government Negotiation Team. Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien is the head of the negotiation team. Since early May, the Vietnamese technical exchange team has been working on bilateral trade negotiations with relevant US agencies.
