Investing in essential infrastructure is one of the important contents of the National Target Program for socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030; Phase I: From 2021-2025 (National Target Program 1719). Accordingly, Thai Nguyen province has focused on directing and implementing the program to ensure progress, thus achieving effectiveness, and consequently improving the quality of life for ethnic minorities.

The people of Ban Ten hamlet develop their economy from ginseng cultivation. Ban Ten hamlet (Van Lang commune, Dong Hy district) has more than 140 Mong ethnic households living there, facing countless difficulties. Previously, mentioning Ban Ten immediately brought to mind a hamlet "lacking many things": no electricity, no roads... the lives of the people were almost completely isolated from the outside world.
However, in just the last few years, thanks to the attention of the State and local authorities, Ban Ten hamlet has undergone many positive changes. Ban Ten now has a road connecting the foot of the mountain to the center of the hamlet. Children in the hamlet attend school in a spacious facility, and residents have electricity and clean water for daily use.
Using funds from the National Target Program 1719, the provincial and district budgets, and other legal sources, Dong Hy district has implemented the construction of a concrete road in Ban Ten hamlet with a total investment of nearly 12 billion VND. This is a type B rural transport project; the total length of the road is 2.3 km, the roadbed width is 5m, the road surface width is 3.5m, and it has a drainage system with box culverts, circular culverts, and slab culverts, as well as a traffic safety system according to technical standards.
Mr. Ngo Van Chinh, head of Ban Ten hamlet, happily shared: “For years, the road was difficult to travel on, and it was impassable in the rain, making it difficult for the villagers to do business. Now that we have a new road, we are very happy. Our children and grandchildren can go to school with peace of mind, without worrying as before. Especially, the villagers no longer have to worry about transporting goods to sell...”

Residents of La Khoan hamlet, Phuong Giao commune, participate in paving the road with concrete.
These days, along with Van Lang commune, many ethnic minority communes in Thai Nguyen province are actively implementing the construction of transportation infrastructure projects under the National Target Program 1719. As a result, many sturdy bridges have been built across streams, and many inter-village, inter-commune, and internal field roads have been newly constructed, upgraded, and repaired. This is truly a "key" and a driving force for development, improving the lives of the people.
For example, in the mountainous district of Vo Nhai, under the National Target Program 1719, the district has implemented 40 projects. These projects focus on investing in the construction of rural roads, irrigation canals, commune markets, health stations, schools, cultural centers, and sports fields. Similarly, Dinh Hoa district has implemented 37 essential infrastructure projects serving the lives of ethnic minority and mountainous communities...
It is known that in 2024, Thai Nguyen province allocated over 600 billion VND from various sources to implement National Target Program 1719. Specifically, the province aims to reduce the poverty rate by 2%; reduce the number of particularly disadvantaged communes in this area by 2; ensure that 100% of villages and hamlets in the province have paved or concrete roads leading to their centers; and ensure that 100% of schools, classrooms, and health stations are built with solid structures...

Thanks to government investment, the people of Cao Bien hamlet now have access to clean water.

Accordingly, Thai Nguyen province has focused on implementing essential infrastructure investment projects to serve production and daily life in ethnic minority areas, including 65 rural transportation projects serving production, business, and people's lives, 5 community centers, 8 school buildings, and 15 small-scale irrigation projects that have been renovated or newly constructed. In addition, 56 infrastructure projects in particularly difficult areas have been maintained and repaired, and one project serving the learning and living needs of teachers and students has been built.
Mr. Phan Duc Cuong, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Thai Nguyen province, said that the completed projects have all proven effective. Currently, dozens of projects are continuing to be invested in and built, contributing to changing the appearance and improving the material and spiritual lives of people in disadvantaged areas. To achieve these results, the province has taken advantage of all available resources, combined with leveraging local strengths and effectively implementing programs and policies, focusing on addressing the urgent needs of the people and building essential infrastructure to serve the socio-economic development of the people in particularly difficult communes and villages.
"In the coming period, Thai Nguyen will continue to increase investment of state resources and economic sectors to build a synchronous socio-economic infrastructure system with the goal of changing the appearance and improving the lives of people in mountainous, highland, and ethnic minority areas," Mr. Phan Duc Cuong added.
