De Heus representatives train corn growing techniques for farmers in the Central Highlands.
With the message "Accompanying Vietnamese corn", De Heus affirms its commitment to sustainable development through practical actions, while cooperating with purchasing partners in collecting corn from farmers, contributing to the commitment to stable and long-term output.
De Heus said it will coordinate with relevant parties to improve production capacity for corn farmers, in order to increase productivity, optimize costs, and improve post-harvest quality. At the same time, De Heus, through cooperatives and drying kilns, ensures stable and long-term output for farmers. According to De Heus, this approach will create a strong link between exporters, buyers and small-scale producers, while reducing risks in terms of supply and quality.
In particular, together with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the provinces, De Heus and its partners implemented the agricultural extension program "Training and Development Center for Corn for Animal Feed", aiming to improve knowledge for members in the value chain and closely connect with the growing areas.
Training content includes: Selecting suitable varieties and preparing land; fertilizing and irrigation strategies according to crop needs; effective pest control; harvesting, processing and post-harvest preservation to meet quality standards.
The program not only provides pre-harvest farming techniques, it also emphasizes the link between production processes, post-harvest quality, and when the product reaches the factory.
De Heus' project aims to purchase 100,000 tonnes of domestic corn in the long term.
De Heus said that improving productivity, optimizing costs and post-harvest quality will help products meet processing standards, reduce post-harvest losses and improve economic efficiency for farmers. The project is currently being implemented in Gia Lai and will expand to Dak Lak and Lam Dong (formerly Dak Nong province) in the near future with the goal of training and coaching farmers, and purchasing 100,000 tons of domestic corn in the long term.
Vietnam needs millions of tons of corn each year to produce animal feed, but domestic production capacity cannot meet the demand, so it still imports corn from other countries.
If implemented synchronously, the project can create a dual impact: it can help increase the rate of domestic raw material use in the animal feed industry, while contributing to raising household income and stabilizing corn cultivation in the Central Highlands. This is a region with advantages in terms of area and ecological conditions suitable for corn.
This is a concrete step by De Heus to realize the Government 's policy of prioritizing domestic agricultural products, developing agricultural value chains and reducing dependence on imports - contributing to building a sustainable local agricultural sector.
