A great destination is one where visitors are assisted promptly.

On May 15, 2023, when traveling to Hue, Ms. Helen Glover and Mr. Paul Glover agreed with a cyclo driver to take them from Le Loi Street (in front of Century Hotel) to the Imperial City for an agreed price of 300,000 VND/2 vehicles. After that, the two cyclo drivers took the two tourists to many other destinations before taking them to the Imperial City and charged the tourists 700,000 VND/2 vehicles.

Dissatisfied with the service of the cyclo drivers. Believing that they had been cheated out of the agreed price, two tourists reported it to a social media group dedicated to sharing their feelings about the destination, and reporting on the bad experiences of tourists when traveling to Vietnam.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Department of Tourism coordinated with the Hue City Police to quickly verify the incident and invited the cyclo driver to come and work. Knowing that the two tourists were still staying in Hue, the tourism department invited them to go through the procedures to return the difference in money that the cyclo driver had taken from the tourists. At the same time, on behalf of the tourism department, they apologized for the inconvenience. The cyclo driver was also present and apologized to the two tourists for the incident that had occurred.

On this occasion, we had a quick chat with two tourists, Ms. Helen Glover and Mr. Paul Glover.

Mrs. Helen Glover:

Tourists worry most about robbery and fraud when traveling abroad.

Unlike domestic travel, when traveling abroad, because of the language barrier and limited understanding of the destination, each tourist is very worried about robbery or fraud. My husband and I have traveled to many places, and have been to Vietnam 3 times, but this is a rare occasion when we were scammed about using services like the one we just had. This completely ruined the fun of the trip.

When reporting the incident to the group, our main purpose is not to get back the money that was scammed, because in reality the amount is not large, but more importantly to help local tourism ( Thua Thien Hue ) recognize the bad phenomena and events. If this situation is allowed to repeat, it will have a very negative impact, affecting the ability to attract tourists, especially international tourists. Through that, we hope that similar situations will not happen to other tourists.

Mr. Paul Glover:

Impressed with the handling of local State management agencies

Surprisingly, the incident happened about a day after my husband and I were staying at the hotel. We received a notice from the receptionist that the tourism management agency in Thua Thien Hue had received information about the incident my husband and I had encountered. The authorities had also found the cyclo driver.

We were even more surprised when we were personally invited to the headquarters by the local tourism and security management leaders. The incident was handled very quickly, seriously and strictly. On behalf of the tourism industry and cyclo drivers, the Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism also apologized for this incident and pledged to strengthen management to prevent similar situations from happening again.

Protecting tourists’ rights in a timely manner; helping tourists feel more secure when traveling in unfamiliar places is the “key” to attracting tourists, especially middle-aged and elderly tourists like us. A great destination is when tourists are supported promptly like that.

Hue is a very ancient and old destination.

We have been to Vietnam 3 times. Previously, we visited Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long City and Hoi An City. This is the first time my husband and I have visited Hue.

When we came to Hue, visited the Imperial City and the mausoleums, we could feel the uniqueness of these tourist destinations. It was so ancient and old, giving us the feeling of wanting to learn about the history and culture of the land. The city of the children, not too many skyscrapers, instead there are many green trees, creating a very peaceful and relaxing feeling.

That was the difference, which made us want to explore and learn more about the history. It was valuable. Besides, the way the local government handled it made us feel sure that this was a safe and friendly destination. It was warm.

We will come back and invite more friends and relatives to come with us.

After meeting with the authorities and cyclo drivers, we shared on the group, recounting how the State management agency in Thua Thien Hue met us in an open and sincere atmosphere. We felt the determination to ensure absolute safety for tourists, the friendliness of the destination. We advised the tourist community on the group to come to Hue for tourism. This is a cultural, historical and extremely safe destination; a top-notch destination.

Certainly, as soon as we return home, we will share this memory with our relatives and friends and recommend that when coming to Vietnam, they should choose Hue as their destination. When we have the chance, we will return to Hue and invite more people to learn and experience more interesting things of this land.
