At around 11:00 AM today (January 9th), residents in the Sa Cat area, Binh Ninh neighborhood, Dien Nam Bac ward, Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province, were startled by a loud explosion, followed by a column of smoke rising. Many residents witnessed the plane crashing into a water spinach field in Binh Ninh neighborhood, Dien Nam Bac ward. The pilot managed to parachute to safety before the plane hit the ground, exploded, and burst into flames.

Mr. Nguyen Nhut Luc, residing in Ninh Binh village, Dien Thang Bac commune, Dien Ban town, recounted: “I was lying in my house when I heard two loud explosions, and the ground shook. I ran out of the house to see and found the front part of the plane severed and on fire, with other parts shattered and damaged. Some trees and crops in my house were damaged by the plane's impact. On the other side, a house had its roof damaged and part of it collapsed.”

Following the incident, the front of the aircraft caught fire, and many other parts shattered into numerous large and small pieces. The plane lightly struck several houses, causing damage and tearing off roofs. The shockwave from the explosion caused houses to shake, walls to crack, and trees toppled. This afternoon, military forces, in coordination with local police, are clearing away the wreckage of the aircraft. More than an hour after the crash, a strong smell of gasoline, suspected to be aircraft fuel, still lingers at the scene.

Speaking to a VOV reporter, Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, Commander of Military Region 5, said that the military aircraft that crashed in Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province on the afternoon of January 9th was a Su-22 belonging to Regiment 929 - Division 372 of the Air Defense and Air Force Command: "Initially, forces will cordon off the scene and coordinate with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the plane crash."

According to the People's Committee of Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province, the results of the on-site inspection determined that the aircraft involved in the incident was number 90, piloted by Do Tien Duc (36 years old). At the time of the incident, there was only one person piloting the aircraft, and no weapons were on board. According to information provided by pilot Do Tien Duc, at noon on January 9th, while on a training flight, the aircraft lost control. The pilot parachuted to the ground safely, and the aircraft crashed with an explosion.

Pilot Do Tien Duc's health has stabilized and he has been taken back to Radar Station 41 in Dien Nam Bac ward to rest. The Dien Ban Town People's Committee reported that one resident of Dien Nam Bac ward was injured in the plane crash and is currently receiving treatment at Vinh Duc General Hospital in Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province. The Dien Ban Town People's Committee is directing forces to cordon off the crash site, protect the scene, and coordinate with Regiment 929 - Division 372, Air Defense and Air Force Command to handle the incident according to established procedures.
