This afternoon, November 27th, information from the People's Committee of Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province, indicates that the temporary embankment reinforced to prevent erosion along the Hieu River through Moc Duc and Truong Xa villages continues to show cracks, posing significant safety risks.

Previously, due to the impact of floods in 2023, the Hieu River bank through Moc Duc and Truong Xa villages, Cam Hieu commune suffered serious landslides with a length of about 0.5 km. Of which, the river bank through Moc Duc village was eroded 150 m, including a landslide that encroached into the asphalt concrete road from 0.5 - 1 m, 30 m long and a landslide section 1 - 2 m from the asphalt road surface, 120 m long.

In response to this situation, Cam Lo district allocated 470 million VND to temporarily reinforce the landslide section with gabions over a length of 70 meters. However, after the impact of typhoon No. 4 , cracks appeared on the surface of this temporary embankment, and the construction unit continued to reinforce it with cement concrete.

However, recently, due to the impact of heavy rains from early November 2024 to the present, the temporary reinforcement point of this embankment has continued to crack and widen, showing signs of tilting and sliding towards the riverbank.

According to Chairman of Cam Hieu Commune People's Committee Mai Chiem Hiep, the crack stretches along the roadside for more than 70 meters, with a crack section about 0.12 meters wide, the subsidence is 0.1 meters lower than the road surface, and tends to tilt towards the river bank. Currently, the locality has put up warning signs and directed the village executive committee and people to continue monitoring and promptly report if there is an incident.

"The landslide area has been temporarily reinforced, but not completely. Cracks continue to appear whenever there is heavy and prolonged rain. This is causing concern for residents living in the area as well as those traveling through it."

The locality hopes that all levels and authorities will soon invest in a solid riverbank embankment system, connecting it with the existing riverbank embankment to ensure safety," Mr. Hiep added.
