Nikki Haley, a former ally and official in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, has now announced that she will not run for vice president if Trump is nominated as the Republican presidential candidate.
"I don't want to be anyone's vice president. There's no question about that. This is their game and I'm not going to be one. I don't want to be vice president," Haley told voters in New Hampshire on January 19.
Ms. Haley is a former Governor of South Carolina and also served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations under the Trump administration. However, they are now on opposing sides as they both race to become the Republican Party's nominee for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Ms. Haley is currently one of the four leading Republican candidates. In the first Republican primary election held on January 15th in Iowa, Ms. Haley finished in third place, behind Mr. Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Following his overwhelming victory in Iowa, Trump urged Haley and DeSantis to drop out to avoid wasting time and resources. However, Haley rejected Trump's arguments and continued to campaign for the second primary election in New Hampshire on January 23rd.
Observers believe that Trump is almost certain to receive the Republican nomination. The public's attention is now focused on who he will choose as his running mate to become his vice president.
Sputnik listed several leading candidates for the position besides Haley, such as former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy – a candidate who recently withdrew from the race.
