Vietnam futsal team wins opening match at Southeast Asian Championship

The match against Timor Leste was the first game for the Vietnamese futsal team at the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship in Thailand. Furthermore, at the beginning of the second half, coach Diego Giustozzi's team (from Argentina) conceded an equalizer. In the 23rd minute (in futsal, each half is 20 minutes, not including time out of play), a Timor Leste player scored from close range, leveling the score. The goalscorer for Timor Leste in this situation was Barreto, from a cross from the left wing by Miguel Fernandes. After the aforementioned goal, the Vietnamese futsal team launched a strong attack, as they did not want to share points with the weaker opponent Timor Leste. In the 25th minute, the Vietnamese futsal team found their second goal of the match. Nguyen Manh Dung quickly tapped the ball in from about 4 meters, increasing the score to 2-1 for the Vietnamese futsal team. Subsequently, in the 36th and 40th minutes, the Vietnamese futsal team added two more goals. The goalscorer for the team under coach Diego Giustozzi in these situations was Nguyen Thinh Phat. In particular, Thinh Phat's goal, which sealed the 4-1 victory in the 40th minute, was from a 10-meter penalty kick (in futsal, there are two penalty spots: 6m and 10m. The 10-meter penalty spot is used for free kicks without a wall, when the opponent commits 6 or more fouls in each half). The next match for the Vietnamese futsal team in this year's tournament is against Malaysia at 3:30 PM on November 4th. Besides Malaysia and Timor, the Vietnamese futsal team is in the same group as two other teams: Brunei and host Thailand.
