The Tra Co Border Guard Station manages a 12.4km long border line (5.6km on land, 6.8km on river and sea) adjacent to China. This area frequently experiences illegal border crossings, smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of goods, drug trafficking, etc.
Having clearly identified the specific characteristics of the area, the Border Guard Post has implemented a comprehensive set of operational measures, focusing on effectively combating various types of crime, preventing the formation of hotspots, and firmly ensuring sovereignty and security in the border region.
For example, on July 14, 2025, during a patrol in the Trang Vi sea area (Mong Cai 1 ward), the task force of the Border Guard Post, in coordination with the Anti-Drug and Crime Task Force (Provincial Border Guard), discovered an unregistered raft, piloted by Ly Van Xuan (born in 1990), transporting 4 tons of oysters from Chinese waters into the interior. The suspect could not present any documents related to the vessel, a driver's license, or invoices for the goods. The case was documented and processed according to regulations.
Previously, on May 26th, the station discovered and handled a case involving the illegal transportation of 80kg of crayfish (a prohibited import species that harms the ecological environment) across border marker 1378. The suspect, Vu Gia Hoi, confessed to buying the goods from a Chinese national for over 22 million VND to use as gifts.
These are just two of many smuggling and illegal cross-border goods trafficking cases that the Border Guard Post has detected and handled recently. From the beginning of 2025 until now, the Post has proactively developed and implemented many operational plans on combating and preventing smuggling, counterfeit goods, illegal immigration, and illegal fishing to all subordinate operational teams and units; clearly defining responsibilities for the forces directly involved in this work.
The unit also regularly coordinates closely with other functional forces such as the police, customs, and coast guard to organize inter-agency patrols, exchange operational information, and promptly handle emerging situations.
The border guard station is stepping up its propaganda efforts and advising local authorities to establish self-governing security teams in residential areas, especially in Tra Co Parish. This contributes to harnessing the strength of the entire population in protecting sovereignty and maintaining border security.
The Border Guard Post actively participates in social welfare activities. Responding to the program "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses," the unit recently coordinated with the local authorities to provide 100 million VND to Ms. Vu Thi Tam, a poor household in Mong Cai 1 ward, to build a house. Many other meaningful activities such as "Spring Border Guard Warms the Hearts of the People," "Helping Children Go to School - Children Adopted by the Border Guard Post," and "Borderland Lessons" have been implemented by the unit.
With decisive and appropriate measures, from the beginning of 2025 to the present, the station has arrested and processed 18 cases/45 individuals violating the law; including 4 cases/6 individuals prosecuted criminally, and 14 cases/39 individuals prosecuted administratively; seized evidence includes 3.05g of ketamine, 3,520 packs of cigarettes, 1,232 canisters of nitrous oxide, 80kg of crayfish, and many other goods.
In the final months of the year, the Border Guard Post continued to improve the quality of its operational work, strengthen its presence in the area, and implement comprehensive measures to effectively combat all types of crime, maintaining peace and security in this border region of the Fatherland.
